  1. Hey jrt, she is 29cm (close to 11.5 inches, I think )
  2. I guess I should never assume. I made the mistake of just assuming that everyone either tatooed their dogs or microchiped them. But I definitely agree with Scouser, if this is not being done, then it is time to start. If there are people who do not think that this is humane, then paw printing and nose printing can be done, and registered or notarized.
  3. The vets over here are also moving that direction. It is getting more and more difficult to purchase the innoculations ourselves. Soon, the same thing will be happening and diseases will be rampant. A few of the guys over here got together and started a little co-op and ordered their shots together, just an idea??? It is much cheaper if it can be done.
  4. My feelings exactly, and I have no difficulty facing any thief. Just my opinion, but I figure that it is best if the cops can be left out of it, if possible. As soon as the cops are involved then we who reported the crime become the ones they watch closely. As a matter of fact, I have a couple of friends in England that work in the "collections" profession. Have worked with them personally, they are solid, but they don't work for free. Not to cause trouble, but if there are a few people who are really serious, then perhaps hiring someone should be considered?
  5. Hey Gamegunner, nice post. I like the way that you skin your rabbit. I will have to try it the next time. I usually skin my rabbits from the side, because I use the fur, but your way certainly sounds fast. Personally, I like to I like to gut mine and get the hides off ASAP, because I think that the longer the hide and guts are left on the more of the death hormones soak into the meat. If I shoot the rabbit, then it is usually sitting still and all I do is take the guts out immediately as it drops dead in an instant. If I cannot get the rabbit dressed in the field, then I soak i
  6. Howdy. Just a question, but do you fellas have to apply for permits to purchase air rifles? Is there a certain speed that most hunting air rifles have to be? Sorry for the seemingly silly question, I have never had to use an air rifle, other than a child's toy.
  7. I would agree. I have very little experience with cops in GB but I would imagine that they are not that different from the ones over here, and here they won't do anything unless they have to, or if they are paid to. We have to catch the thieves on video, then threaten the cops that we will go to the media in order to motivate the police. Since some people seem to be hesitant to put themselves in the way, perhaps setting a trap, like Symon suggested, with video surveillance is the way to go??? Just an idea of something that works here.
  8. Hey DS, nice thread. I have just found it today and already I want to stay out of it. It touches a raw nerve with me and I have some very strong opinions on the matter. I have taken in many unwanted dogs over the years and have spent countless hours with them, losing sleep over them, and hitting bankruptsy many times. I am very passionately against organizations like SPCA and mush with PRIDE and their equivilents. Also, I feel that there are no greater enemies to dogs than the Kennel Clubs and their "Breeders". "In all actuality, show dog breeders are nothing more than a rich m
  9. Thankyou mate, same to you I would love to go hunting in canada lived in flesherton ontario years ago! I have a friend that went last year got offered to be whipper in for a pack! Cheers. Symon. You're welcome to drop in anytime. I wouldn't know what the regulations are for bringing in hunting dogs. Has anyone ever looked into it?
  10. Yep, I hate to agree, but the cops really can't (won't) do anything. Had difficulty here with my dogs "mysteriously" dying, and I couldn't afford to pay the police.
  11. Sorry, can't help with any of that. We've got a different set of rules over here. Good Luck!
  12. Not to be a trouble maker, but head and neck shots are the only way to go. Head shots always give immediate kills, and Neck shots, always drop the animal immediately and rarely is the animal alive by the time I walk to it. How close are you getting? What type of bullet are you using? Off hand or bipod? For a decent shot, I would suggest a head shot up to 300m, and maybe a neck shot for 200-500m, but 500m and up, I usually use a heart shot. Or if it is really windy, and we get some nasty wind here at times, I would use a heart shot.
  13. Just a small oppinion Savage makes a nice .22-250, heavy barrel, 1 in 12 twist. It is a nice flat shooting, good grouping rifle. Use the proper powder and bullet for your cartriges and it is an excellent all round rifle. Can take all rodents, rabits, foxes, wolves, wolverine, black bear, and caribou. Although on really windy days, I will take the .30-378 for caribou, moose and bear. Personally, I feel that if a person were to get a good trustworthy rifle in the 5-7mm range, then it really depends on your reloading choices.
  14. I checked other I use a Weatherby .30-378, which seems to work great for any large game task and gives good distance and a solid grouping. I have also owned a Winchester .270 that never let me down and was easy to shoot off hand, as it had little recoil.
