  1. My pup did the same, i just attched a light lead to his collar, and let him drag that around following me. After a few minutes pick it up and see how you get on. If he digs his heels in again, drop the lead and run away from him. When he returns, praise him and pick up the lead and try again. Hope this helps, it worked for me. DG
  2. I have a kc reg working bred whippet and hes a belter, got a bit more size and robustness about him, hes 8 month old, 21" and 32Lb, so quite a bit heavier that your track stuff, but then you may find a dog with a tad more weight might fare better retieving shot foxes ect!! Here he is a few weeks ago, DG
  3. Hmm, i think i'd have a GreyxSaluki, or GreyxWhippet. DG
  4. I feed mine on a compleate mix, i also give lamb breast, tinned mackrel, chicken wings, boiled eggs and they get plently of full fat milk as we live on a dairy farm.
  5. Theres one on offer, with trial in the for sale section. DG
  6. hmmm, maybe 21-22" tops i reckon. Stunning looking pup. DG
  7. can be found hanging around mens toilets after hours......what can you get for $10 nowadays?

  8. I took my whippet out watching on the lamp at 5 months, did him no harm at all. He watched the lamp intently and it will give you a good idea of how keen they are. Only thing i would say is, if your dog starts yapping with excitment or fustration...take him home as you dont want him to pick up bad habbits. My pup caught his first rabbit from his first slip at 6.5 months old, hes 8 months now and thats the only time hes been out, thought that was enough for a young dog, im now waiting until hes about a year. Cheers DG
  9. Hi headshot, if you go onto the whippet archives and search for rabbits fate you will be able to see his breeding. I dont think hes going to get much bigger, he will probably just fill out. DG
  10. Hes had 1 rabbit from his first slip on the lamp, but ive decided to wait until hes at least 10-11 months before we go out again as i dont want to ruin him. He will be lamping, and hopefully retrieve foxes and maybe roe. Hes going to be a big lad, hes 21.5" and 32lb at the moment. Only time will tell i guess. Cheers DG
  11. Ta simba, ive seen your blue un, very very nice indeed.

  14. I did hear about them before, but only a handful of times. Roberts right, i believe mike sold a bitch to the chap who started the line and i thinks they are doing well. The dam to my pup was very small and light, but the dad was a super looking dog. Cheers DG
  15. Hey ljs, rimrock rouser is the dam to my pup 'rabbits fate'.
  16. Train it right, read the article it should help. cant find the article.
  17. Can a dogs prior training, like recall ect go out of the window when out lamping for the first time? Is it likly to hunt up?
  18. Ive been thinking about ways of how to get my dog to know to look down the lamp in preparation for lamping when old enough, hes only eight months at the moment but i thought of maybe taking him onto the lawn at night and illuminating thrown toys ect, in the hope that he will know theres always something at the end of the beam. Whats your tricks of the trade...or do you feel a dog will learn on the job? Cheers DG
