  1. I have also heard that some ferret owners are trying to buy the distemper vaccine to administer themselves surely this is a job for the vet.
  2. Well said .. Sheila ferrets were not pm'd because she wasnt at home when they died & they were more than 24 hours dead when found so seemingly they couldnt be pm'd ... So i am pretty sure that her ferrets were ok before they were left as i know she wouldnt have left very sick ferrets ... so it must be something that acts very very quickly ... that in its self is a worry i dont think anyone's obligated to post pm reports on the public domain but theres 2 potential diseases flooring ferrets out there & its not about the '' faces'' its about the welfare of the ferrets all thes
  3. If distemper is rife within the ferret show circuit as is suggested then surely ferret shows being stopped would make sense, red rosettes and trophies are far too great a temptation to a lot of people, rather than the welfare of the ferret. Even though some people know they have been to shows and other ferrets have come down with distemper from that show they are still quite willing to go to another show and put other owners ferrets at risk. Most people are responsible but unfortunatly there are some who are not One ferret show recently advertised on a forum quoted ferret show is stil
  4. Good question Rocky4 but as Kay hasn't replied what are your views?
  5. Top man is Derek, excellent judge of ferrets and dogs. For all you show organisors wanting a good HONEST judge here is your man.
  6. Is the Welsh game fair you talk of the one held at Gelli Aur or is there two Welsh game fairs. Blackfut
  7. Hi Just wondered if anyone on this forum has been to both Scottish game fair and the midland game fair and wondered how they compare.Normally attend the midland for 2 days with plenty to see and wondered if the scottish warrants spending the 3 days there or would we get around it all in a couple of days. Thanks. Blakfut

  9. Hi Bob long time no see hope you & Jackie are keeping well, and all your ferrets We're fine still trying to cram too much into a week, but it keeps you young. As for which locator to buy personally I would go for the mk3 they seem pretty simple to use once you get used to them, I find turning the volume off untill final pin pointing works for me. I also think that on occasion you may start using the locator too soon and if a rabbit came to the top of a hole as they sometimes do the noise could spooke them. I have no problem with the mk1 but technolaogy moves on.
  10. Well done Kay, but as Millet has said it would be a good idea to invest in a locator at least for your own piece of mind, had you needed to dig your ferret out as a novice you could of been forced to dig out the whole burry as I know you wouldn'y have left without him. Bob
  11. Knuckle bones are also good for keeping teeth clean. Bob
  12. Thieving b@stards should be low, 6ft low. Hope you get him back. Bob
  13. Hi all I must say for me it is collar up every time, its only the last 15 yrs or so I've had locators, but I think they are a God send. I've used ferrets without, had one collard up incase of a lie up, and in the past have used a linning Hob, but now it's a collar on every ferret every time, but this doesn't mean I dig a lot, given a bit of time the ferret will get the most stuburn of rabbits to bolt, but if not I can pin point her exactly and dig. The only downfall I find is some times the collar snags in the net, not so much on the mk3. Bob
  14. Last few trips out we've been getting more & more with a belly full of young, if we stop ferreting now that would make breeding season longer for the rabbits resulting in a population exploion, the farmers would not be happy and start looking for alternative method of control. Bob
