    Help!

Don't get hung up on this 'genetics' thing. The 'Silver' issue is specific to Silvers/DEWs, and there's also issues around Waardenberg's, but neither of these would cause the death of an entire litter, that's not how genetics works. As jamesc pointed out, there's many reasons why an entire litter might die. Their genetics is one of the more unlikely reasons. Seems to me the breeders on here are pretty responsible, Caz, in that they're not afraid to ask questions, and at least consider the advice given.

    Help!

Well, apart from Shows, and Adrenal, and implants and Courts and runs and..... But lets not let facts get in the way of a good bit of prejudice, eh stubby?
  3. Awwwww....but I did it with a grin.....
  4. So why piss about with a half-page essay, eh? Bunny-hugger.....don't think so kid.....
  5. I'm not sure what problems stubby has with my posts. I have made no distinction between 'pet' ferret owners, or 'working' ferret owners, because as I said earlier, the facts remain the same, the genetics doesn't distinguish between reasons for breeding. One thing that many people have difficulty in grasping with genetics, is that it is based on chance. You cannot say (and I haven't) that EVERY TIME you breed from a Silver/DEW you will get problems. But there is a finite chance of it, and that chance is greater than for other colours, save those that are carriers of the Waardenberg's ge
  6. Shouldn't that be 43 Caz?......
  7. Bugger. I've booked mine in at the vets for a spey reversal, and sod the genetic consequences, I'm breeding from her...
  8. No, you're just someone who can't cope with any form of criticism, and responds with personal abuse Take more water with it Ok my humble apoligises for my harsh words kind sir your obivously quite sensitive  . Yes, I am a sensitive soul, and your scathing comments have hurt me to the quick. Your sincere apology is noted and accepted...
  9. No it isn't. That doesn't mean it's neccessary or desirable though. And if you must breed (rather than merely want to) then I suggest it makes sense to understand the full genetic implications of what you are doing. Something that magwitch demonsterably fails to do: her recent posts confirm that her knowledge of genetics is zero. At least Magwitch's spelling is up to scratch! demosterably. That's poor typing, not poor spelling. Though I grant you the effect's the same

  11. You don't get it, do you, stubby? 'Lethal' genes either kill the foetus (leading to reabsorbtion if early) or, if not fully expressed, lead to shortened life/health problems. I never mentioned deformity. Whilst it's true that some gene mutations do lead to deformity, it's nort mandatory. I didn't learn my genetics from the internet, btw. I couldn't breed from my silver, she's speyed....look that up You asked me to state my views. I did so. If you have any scientific evidence that what i've said is wrong, then let's be seeing it.
  12. I am a shemale get a grip dipstick Hahahahaha. Try harder with the insults, Einstein Ive had silvers for years my friend, i have nearer bred silver to silver and have always out crossed to a unrelated albino and have near reared a retard yet. i bow to your superior knowledge my learned friend. now get a grip dipstick You aren't my friend, and you're just reducing the odds, not eliminating them. You seem obsessed with my dipstick....scary
  13. How do you breed 'responsibly/sensibly' a ferret that contains a lethal gene? the gene doeasn't know if you are being 'responsible' or 'sensible' i meant as far as you can be. i.e,not breeding silver to silver or any ferrets that are either related or known to have silver in there recent line. got to give it to you droid,at least you've got a sense of humour! Yes, I agree with that..... And I'm not advocating a cull of silvers/DEWs - I have one myself - just not breeding from them.
  14. There IS no problem, as long as you accept that you are breeding into your ferrets a lethal/harmful gene that WILL show eventually. How a 'record of your lines' will change whether the gene exerts an effect on the unfortunate ferret eludes me.

  17. In which case I would advise laying off the 'Superstrength' for a few days
  18. If you wish to get rid of the lethal gene, yes. In as much as you shouldn't breed from them or lines that produce them. If, of course, you ain't bothered about the genetic health of the British ferret population, then carry on regardless. You might care to increase the frequency of the Waardenburg's gene by breeding mitts and blazes too.
  19. I'm not knocking ferreters, I'm knocking those who breed without fully understanding the genetic basis of that breeding. So read my posts properly, stubby. That's got bugger all to do with hunting. For the record: silvers/DEWs have, within their genetic makeup, a 'lethal' gene. This gene is somerwhat variable, in other words it doesn't always exert an effect, and the effect it exerts can be variable, up to and including reabsorbtion of the foetus. The gene is basically recessive, needing a version from both the hob and the jill to have it's more harmful effects. This means tha

  22. That comment shows a profound lack of knowledge of basic genetics. Not altogether uncommon in those who choose to breed for colour.
