  1. Was talking too man about my lurcher, and he pointed me in direction of a farmer a mile away. Said he happy for people to go for foxes as is a sheep farmer, so am asking in the next day or too. Would get me a lot of groundbetween here and the town. Was always unsure how to ask cos no one knows me round here. How that hob doing for you? Jill coming on good here.
  2. I know it's not easy getting ground. I am looking a lot more to learn terrier work as I don't really want to head into it with only a book knowledge and no experience. I don't want to mess any one elses ground up and am prepared to have a wait and hard time getting there. Just thought that it couldn't hurt to ask. Have all my own ferreting gear and dogs. But would be happy to just get out with more workers, and not use my dogs. My wee jrt is used for ferreting. Lurcher is taking rabbits and odd pheasant, run a couple foxes but no luck yet. Both ok with sheep too. The gun shop is still
  3. I'm not a local, I have a small bit of ground but want to do more work. Terrier and ferret, Having to sell lurcher due to lack of work for her. Thought I'd take a chance and see if anyone knows anywhere or if anyone would need a hand for beating or donkey work with spade etc. Worth a shot.
  4. Does anyone know of any ferret, terrier and lurcher ground in this area? or need a spare pair of hands any days?
  5. They are the only dog men I have met since i moved here, and they seem to be decent enough blokes. They seem to be well known enough. Is there a lot of lurcher and terrier men in the area?
  6. aye thanks. She everything that a lurcher is meant to be. But aren't they all? Never had a dog as loyal as this, real shame I have to let her go.
  7. Shame I dont drive or know anyone who is over regularly. Don't even think ferry prices that cheap either. Probably cost more than sale price in transport haha
  8. thanks, so do I. Had some interest, but no takers just yet.
  9. are the henrys well known then? I'm not from round here and they bout the only dog people I met. Wouldn't be much point taking anyone over my ground cos bugger all on it. How would you mean trial? Are you in this area?
  10. tommy and his son both nice blokes. Got good ferret from tommy few years ago.
  11. that wouldn't be tommy henrys son in gulladuf?
  12. Not sure how far exactly. Am roughly half way betwen belfast and londonderry, off the glenshane pass. about 10 mile from magherafelt. Woldn't know anything about transporting dogs though, and have no transport myself, to help with delivery.
  13. Unfortunately not. She has run at them but not easy slips. I'm not from this area and haven't got in with anyone who could have helped that way so have been trying on my own. She is keen to try though and I have no doubts that she would do well if given the chance.
  14. Have a 3 year old lurcher bitch, Bull greyXwheaten grey. 22" tts Has taken rabbits on the lamp and daytime, also got pheasant too. All retrieved live. Had couple of runs at foxes, but bad slips. Keen to get at them given a chance though. Mainly using her for lamping, bushing and ferreting. Good with other dogs and very calm with people. For sale due to changes in circumstances. Had a kid and don't have as much time now. Last dog in so first one out. Very reluctant sale. Only to a working home and someone who can bring out the best in her. Am asking £150. £100 now. Videos on yo
  15. its definately butcher string. Can't get any more. But a ferret book I have from the 70s mentions it as rayon and is good stuff. Bit heavy to carry as a stopnets though.
  16. How you getting om with this patch now? Any luck catching? Hows hob doing?
  17. Does anyone make nets with anything other than the standard nylon, hemp polyester you can buy in country shops? I ask cos I have been using some stuff that I saw in the local pound shop haha was £1 a spool (big). thought I'd check it out. Have made purse nets and stopnets. It is easy to knit. holds the knots well doesn't tangle. Have left an off cut of net out in rain for months to test it and although it's gone green its still as strong as it was. It must be man made but I don't know what it is. It had a label in the wrapper saying was from a foodstuff company and I have recently seen v
