  11. just fetch the pup up as normal mate and enter it to it's chosen quarry as you would, when he's of age you can try him and i'm sure you'll soon tell if he's up to the job in hand,i wouldn't get rid cause you might regret it,see it through and try and ignore the negative responses, let us know how he gets on.
  12. i liked my 3.0 TD landruiser/collarado,awesome power, but it was getting ruined by the dogs so i now have a 3.1 isuzi trooper to wreck now:D it wouldn't compete with the landcruiser for power and comfort but i can't knock it,it's been a good work horse for me.
  13. well no retrievels today, ground was rock hard, walked some other land but not really suitable for a good retrieve ditch the saluki wanted to be with me most of the time so it seems i could be the new pack leader,it was a shame not to see any retrieves to see what he would do with the catch,we'll see next time hopefully pics of my son with the saluki.
  14. ditch that makes sense,i'm takeing my son out with us tomorrow,we're going to be flushing some big ears to the gun using the saluki so we'll see if your theory is right, there will be another dog present but it will be on slip and should be a good distance apart so if he does retrieve any it would be interesting to see what he does with the quarry. i'll let you know what happens
  15. you could be right millet,i don't think that he would be bothered to dig a hole when it's took him 3-4 mins to retrieve a big bunny,it's not a major problem but just unusual
  16. that would be great to see some pics whin, thats a life time ambition of mine to go some where like that and see there native saluki's and actually work along side them. ditch,it's my sons dog who is really involved in the working/feeding /training of him when he can but due to school commitments i take over during the day,i take him out with my two other dogs morning and evening, i would say that i have a good bond with him and he's very obedient when my son's not present, the saluki's general obedience is good just apart from putting it's catch in my hand it put's it in a hole it sounds
  17. sounded like a interesting holiday whin, like to see some pics of the native saluki if you have any to hand theres plenty of contact between the saluki and myself but it must be something that he was allowed to get away with before i got him, once he's buried the rabbit he comes to heal, but if i go to him while he's burrying it like i said earlier he'll just moves on with the rabbit and does the same again,i'll work with him constantly in the summer months see if i can get on top of his retrieval.
  18. I would try him without the terrier,at least that might narrow down the reason for his behaviour, looks like you are going to need binoculars to see where he is stashing his catches, the terrier doesn't really put much pressure on him when he's caught a rabbit as you will see on the pics but her pressence alone could be enough to cause him to do it.interesting to see what he will do by himself.
  19. could be instinctive frank but why dont the other 10,000,000 dogs in the country do it and it could have something to do with the terrier been there aswell he sort of retrieves to about 30 yards then looks for a clump of grass or a bush to dig a hole, but if i disturb him he'll take it out of the hole and just take it somewhere else to do the same again.
  20. cheers lads,bullyson he's a pure.
  21. has anyone come accross this before? i went up my permission today with my son's saluki and a jack russel for flushing, just for a general mooch as it was a pleasent afternoon, anyway he caught 3 rabbit's but buried every one,he actually done it one day last week but i thought it just might of been a one off,all the years iv'e had dogs i have never seen this before just wondered if any of you lads have!!!!!!!! the 3rd rabbit i couldn't find he hid it to good but the last pics you can see on his nose where he must of been pushing the undergrowth back over the rabbit, strange
  22. bullyson,i'm not nit picking mate but it looks as though that is a bad place to learn your young dogs to jump, they are haveing to land on the stones off the dry stone wall which could cause bad injury and it looks just as bad jumping the other way. i know you can't tell a dog where to jump from when pursuing it's quarry but when your training i would probably pick a better spot, good luck with your training anyway.
