  1. Bird how the hell can anyone breed a lurcher for money? What kind of money? zero prophet maybee! 100 pound odd. A decent price could not ever be achieved back in the hey day (legal coursing etc) and as for getting good permanent homes that's another thing. Who the hell would breed lurchers these days to sell? Breed your own and gas the rest its always best.
  2. yes, a bit like pure greyhounds entering lurcher racing. I don't mind the shows but too many people get Manchester United about it!
  3. Yeh I think that this thread was for bull cross earth dogs, not straight terriers nor straight bull
  4. Makes me smile, some of the fuss made at country shows. The ultimate paradox, rosette hunters spitting out dummies when there "Working dog" does not get picked. I even know people now who are breeding "working" dogs to "look" right in the ring, god how pathetic!! If showing is there main priority, why don't they get a pedigree dog and go to show dog shows?
  5. Nuttalls stuff is so damn tight it often benefits some new blood. They are usually small things as well.
  6. ee, we all have our own ways o doin stuff. Neither of us is wrang o reet, just different methods. If ye get the job done wots the bother, you take the high road........etc
  7. Pip, I have often said that dogs often jib if there efforts seem to them to be in vain. Some lads just pick the dog up at the earth end and tether him, dispatch the stuff and that is that, dogs sometimes lose faith. I let them worry the dead carcase to show them they have won, and reward the dog with praise and a treat as well. They understand more than you think.
  8. Thanks twotone, the Border terrier in the Patterdale's background is also overlooked too.
  9. same sh1 diferent dog, test them to death = no pups.
  10. TRUE, more like a LOT of bull in most dogs, albeit scaled down. And for the real stuff, it's just scaled up!
  11. more recent times than sparrow, is recent history!
  12. when they are pushed they will either jib or die, pit bull paradox no1, can't breed from a dead, dead game dog!
  13. with the best will in the world, the best bred dogs in the world will not always perform. Its often down to entering and who has the dog. Out of 5 pups of the best bred terriers often only 2 will make the grade depending who is on the top of the lead. Some (most) over face a young game dog and carry on with them until they jib, giving 18-months -2 years to mature will yield far more longevity, and a better rate of success.
  14. Breeding with dead or dying terriers is impossible. Waiting till 3 years of digging experience is gambling, what do you do, wait for them to get tired and jib before you breed them? Breed them young to drop back on in the future I say. Otherwise extinct the breed! Plus old and tired terriers are sometimes too spent to even have a litter.
  15. How much for a stud, any chance of more pictures?? pls?
  16. Patterdale enthusiasts, purists say that patts never had bull blood in them. I think they are wrong. Throuought the history of working terriers, bull blood was invariably used to spice things up a bit. Ken Gould in more recent times did it with his strain of Russells, not to mention the Sparticus Fells as well. Sparrow, an old terrier authority suggested using it also. My thoughts are this; which came first the chicken or the egg? So many APBTs I have been around remind me so much of working terriers, and vice versa. When the rat pits were in there hey day, all sorts of bull and terrier pe
  17. Most real bull terriers have a perfect scissor bite. Undershot bull crosses is a myth, bad breeding usually.
  18. georgia, cracking bitch (i think) And yes, that dog would and did keg, it is actually very unsporting on foxes, but it gets the job done no contest!! Cut out for other stuff maybee? I was born 30 years too late
  19. Kirstys dad that dog could find, just ask keg. There is nothing wrong with bull terriers scenting ability in my opinion, though it can depend on what type of line it is from. It may be that sometimes the bully types are just too damn big to get to there quarry, giving the illusion of having a poor nose? This dog is just right sise wise, and his progeny are often as good if not better.
