  1. The only legal requirement is when you change your permanent address, Without looking, I believe it says on your SGC that security of the firearms rests with the certificate holder, so providing you are happy with your workmanship and that it has no more chance of being broken into than before, you are fine. Personally, I would inform them out of courtesy that the cabinet has been moved. They may just make a note of where in the house it now sits.
  2. Would like to know where Tayside police have got their information from. You need no reason whatsoever to be granted a Shotgun certificate, the only proviso is that the police must be satisfied you are not a danger to yourself or others. That is all. In fact, a shotgun certificate is a right to be granted. I could turn around to my FEO and say that I never intend to shoot my shotguns ever again and they will stay where they are for the next 50 years and so long as I don't become mentally deranged there is nothing he/she can do. Obviously most of us will have a reason of some sort
  3. .222 + ballistic tipped round = Crow feathers flying everywhere Expensive hobby unless you reload though
  4. Only one signature is needed for a SGC. The reference isn't as in depth as with an FAC. The wife I can't help with
  5. Your FAC and an SGC are two distinct certificates issued in their own right according to S.1 for FAC and S.2 for SGC of the Firearms Act. Your SGC would be a mere formality after you have an FAC. You do not require land, permission or a reason to be granted an SGC, in fact it is a right to be granted one unless you are proved to be otherwise to dangerous to yourself and the public. Should have no problems seen as you already have an FAC, just send the forms in SS
  6. Depending on the rounds being used I can't see a problem with 100 for that as well. Unless you plan to be taking 300 yard shots on Moose. Need sturdy mounts and a solid scope for such a calibre too
  7. For the .223, .243 and .308 I personally would be thinking an inch high at 100 yards depending on the type of ground you'll be shooting over and typical shooting distances. What configuration is the .375 H&H? Standard bolt-action or something more exotic with iron sights?
  8. I was reading recently about their attempt at making an ICBM. It blew up 90 seconds after take off They rely on China to harbour all of their diplomatic relations in Beijing based embassies, which will be the next thing to disappear if things escalate, then it will be every penny of foreign finance will suddenly stop. They will be bankrupt and starving from the bottom right to the top of the echelons...
  9. If you're going down the road of practical shotgun, the gun would be set up for that anyway and probably wouldn't be best suited in the field. There's nothing on the British Isles that can't be taken with a Section 2 shotgun that could be taken by a S.1
  10. It's basically a paper excercise. There is no offence for a shooter or RFD where a gun is given to a gunsmith as a S.1 shotgun, sent to the proof house to be certified as restricted to 2+1 and then entered onto an SGC by that same RFD. The only total restriction is with Section 5 firearms where they are always S.5 and cannot be altered to S.1 or S.2, the only way they can be converted to something else is to be totally deactivated.
  11. I find that easier with balls ups, so long as they know you're coming.
  12. Are you far from their Headquarters? Might be as well to drop it in...
  13. Oh... Maybe another word in their ear...
  14. Yes you can but it involves a trip to the proof house for the gun
  15. If his ticket is authorising him to purchase or acquire a .22LR, HMR, .223 and .308 he can go out an buy any of those rifle calibres. Doesn't necessarily mean they have to be your exact ones. If they've listed your exact guns with serial numbers etc, I would think there's been another proverbial cock up.
  16. I've substituted my HMR for the .222 at present. Just happened to drop the HMR the other day and crack the front lens I must say a 40gr ballistic tip does just as good a job
  17. It depends what you're shooting at really, If you're confident in your rifle and your ability, then the HMR will take Rabbit/Winged vermin out to 200 yards, maybe a bit further. Of course the Fox with a HMR is a bit controversial, but around 100 yards is the average.
  18. Glad I'm not the only one who had to ignore the manufacturers recommendations not to ruin my rounds.... I don't (think) I go OTT with the whole brass cleaning regime, I usually just de-prime/neck size them and throw them all into a tumbler. Sorts them out quite nicely without much effort. I've learnt my lesson with the dies though, didn't think how dirty they can become and there was some gunk in there when I cleaned it right through. As you say, surprising I'll keep my eye out for the wax next time I pop into the gun shop I go to with plenty of reloading gear. Happy to sa
  19. http://www.justcartridges.com stock a few varieties. Shot Victory for years, excellent shells
  20. Thanks guys, you are most likely right I've cleaned the case necks to remove almost all the lube but I also soaked and cleaned the seating die which must have removed some old lube/dirt and it seems to be seating just fine now. That'll teach me, 17 bent cases and a LOT of swearing later...
  21. is "you can shoot lots of shit with one" a good reason  In my book, yes The more chances you get at that Magpie you just can't nail is a good reason.
  22. BH, Still need to have your permission to use the gun on a certain piece of land as with all FAC stuff, but once granted the shotgun will become effectively "unrestricted" as to where it could be used. Much like a completely open certificate. That is unless it's for purely practical shotgun shooting where it may be restricted to something like "For use on H.O. approved ranges for Practical Shotgun purposes" And you need a "Good Reason" to have one too.
