  1. No Brimmer, not saying we dont have a small effect but this is disease and weather that is causing this. Don't worry they will bounce back history dictates that rabbits will overcome.
  2. Yeah sounds like a problem, my area is normally over run but I walk the dogs and dont see many and plenty with mixy, fingers crossed but will put some posts up when we eventually get out, weather permitting.
  3. Well its getting time to start the yearly rabbiting trips, unfortunately I have seen a big decline in the last couple of months. I put this down to the wet weather, the rabbits hate the wet so will have spent even more time below ground and with a bit of mixy about the fleas would have spread it like wildfire. I am hoping this is not the case, its going to be a shame if we have lost loads to mixy again, but my suspicions may be founded. It will soon become apparent when we set out and cover the heavily populated areas that we were expecting huge numbers this year. Has anyone else noticed a b
  4. Fantastic mate, can't wait to start now I have read that, just have a few more days of decorating then I'm free.........
  5. Sorry Brad I put Bret for some reason, must be my age...... Good to have you both see you again soon.
  6. After my offer for some ferreting on here, I had a few that wanted to tag along but it was just Vin and Bret that finally turned up for a bash. It was amazing Stevo and the crew turned up 15 minutes early which was unlike them they are usually bang on time. But I got a message from Vin saying they had a hold up and would be 15 minutes late. I was thinking could this have been a mistake as I am a twat for wanting things to go bang as planned. I would give them the benefit of doubt and we sat and had a coffee waiting for them to turn up. About 15 minutes later a van pulled up on my front and i
  7. Thanks guys, I can't do it all the time as the landowners are a bit wary of new people, but when it gets late on they know we will be stopping anytime so they are keen to get rid of as many as poss.
  8. Lesson learned, don't get caught mr naughty teapot....
  9. Looks like Monday if your interested. will be early 6.30 at mine near Lincoln. Had a bash on the pigeons today for a change shot well over 100 picked up 76 and some blacks. rest went in thick cover and impossible to recover.
  10. Well managed to get out today (friday) but the problem was thick fog, that thick I couldn't see my deeks. I set up thinking it would clear quickly like the day before but no way, it had other plans. With me being down in a small dip, (not many around these parts it's all flat) it held much longer that I thought. I had been watching this chopped maize for a couple of days so had my heart set on shooting it. Well the hours passed by and I got the odd shot at shadows coming out of the fog, it must have only been about 20 foot thick and sunny as hell above. The birds just didn't want to drop into
  11. Hi I am getting snowed under by requests to move rabbits at the minute. As its getting very close to the end of the season I was thinking of letting a crew come along to give us a hand. You will need all the equipment and be prepared for some digging there are a few young about in some areas. I need reliable, grafters who will respect the land, fill in all digs to a good standard, respect that it is my permission and no knocking. Dogs are welcome but not taking hares etc etc, you know the score. The only time I can get is Monday or Tuesday next week and it will be an early start. I have prev
  12. As I wrote in a thread a couple of weeks ago, we lost a ferret while doing a res near my home. We searched for hours and I went back 2 days on the trot afterwards looking for ages. Unfortunately there was no sign, so we classed it as lost. It was possible that it could turn up on the field behind my house at some time, it's only 2 fields away. Alas I got a call from my next door neighbour telling me he had found it while walking the dog. It had tried to cross the road towards the field at the bottom of my garden but was hit by a car by the looks of things. On examination the collar had gone,
  13. Well it's time for me to start pigeon shooting now the ferreting is almost done. I have cleaned up a few farms of the bunnies and seen loads of pigeons on the maize so will be starting this week. I am planning on shooting with a mate, but need to do a bit of spotting this week. I called in on one of my farms and as I was being driven around by the farmer saw hundreds of birds coming into a maize strip. Guess I will keep an eye on them this week and see how it goes. Trouble is having the time, I am doing a fishing article for Improve Your Course Fishing magazine Monday, Hospital Tuesday to have
  14. We had our last visit to one of the farms today just clearing a few off the boundary to a Quarry. We had to get additional permission to do this but all was in hand and although tricky work it had to be done. We knew the numbers would be pretty low today but still worth the effort, it's good practice to keep the farmers sweet. Like I said we will now leave this one alone maybe just have a couple of days lamping with the dogs for some sport. We have decided to leave it even though there are still plenty of rabbits left, we don't want to over do it and have none left for next season. Having
  15. Will do vin, it will be early next season before we tackle that again and we were saying earlier it could produce 100+
  16. An early start was on the cards for the latest session which was planned for the fen. We got there just after first light but Stevo was a little heavy headed from the night before , Ahh kids. The starting point was a dyke with hardly any cover, nice for a change, but from previous experience we knew it was deep last year we had a 9 foot dig. The good point was it is sandy peat and quite easy to dig, well to an extent anyhow. We managed a quick 5 with one that rolled the net but the lurcher nailed that easily enough. After that it all went tits up, we had a dig on every set and most were 4-6
  17. Well the day we had today there would be no way to get huge numbers. We started off on the fen and every set was a dig and all of them were 4-6 foot, there were quite a few young and as we dug down the ferrets dragged them off and we had to dig again. We called it a loss on there and will leave this area until next season with that amount of young about. We then went across the road from my house on a hedgerow which was much better, but Stevo had hammered the beer the night before and was knackered, (kids and beer) comes to mind. We still managed 26 rabbits and a couple of hares (to the gun)
