But to say your kids are living better than you did because you can cart them off to Africa for a holiday or go fishing on a certain river is a load of old bollocks.     Maybe so. But very short sighted. Sell your asset to pay rent for the rest of your life. If you had that house in the 70s and sold it for £1100 I’m sure that money is long gone. Instead you’d more than likely have a house now worth maybe £250k to maybe leave to your kids.     Really I never heard of that. Why would anyone sell an asset and move into something they have to rent and never own would be beyond me. I know a lot of people bought council houses very cheap after renting for years alright.

    I think you could be mistaken mCHULL very very few people were buying there houses in the 50s. By 80s and 90s welfare had come up alot councils were building decent houses people were better off than they ever could have imagined 20 years beforehand.     I’ll agree from a young age we were always taught to keep your hair tidy and wash every day even if it was just in a sink with a bar of soap. Even while doing time you’d do your best to be turned out clean shaven and as best you could.     Such a snowflake the smell of silage and horses gets into your skin sometimes no scrubbing takes it off. I remember my grandparents always had what we called a ‘po’ which was a piss pot they kept under the bed I’d imagine they were common at the time.
