  1. Nice setup! The HW98 pairs really well with a solid one-piece mount, especially with a scope like the Optisan 10x32. The Sportsmatch LOP33C is a quality mount—very solid—but you're right to consider the length. It might overhang slightly depending on your eye relief and rail space. If that’s a concern, the Sportsmatch OP12 is a bit more compact and still gives great grip on recoiling springers like the HW98. Worth checking the rail length and your preferred scope position before buying. Let us know what you go with!
  2. Fair point! Sounds like you've had a really solid run with your PCPs—maybe I’ve just had bad luck or been too cautious with maintenance. Totally get that everyone’s experience can vary.
  3. The NocPix Lumi series looks like a solid option for a compact thermal spotter.
  4. Totally get why someone would switch back to a springer. PCPs are fantastic, but the upkeep, servicing costs, and all the extras can be a headache. A well-made springer is self-contained, reliable, and just works when you need it. Sure, they take more skill to master, but that’s part of the fun. No air tanks, no leaks—just grab and shoot. Sometimes, simple is better!
  5. This case highlights a flaw in the current system—if a fake certificate can be used, the process clearly needs better verification. An automated check for certificate numbers, like passwords, should be mandatory. Sellers need a way to confirm legitimacy instantly. More restrictions won’t stop criminals, but fixing weak points in the system can prevent this from happening again.
  6. That’s a tough situation, but I can see why he’d go back to a springer. PCPs can be amazing, but they do come with extra costs for maintenance and accessories. A high-quality springer is reliable, self-contained, and can last for years with minimal upkeep. Sometimes, simplicity wins out, especially when you factor in the long-term hassle and expenses. Hope he finds the right rifle for his needs!
  7. You’ll definitely need a shotgun certificate (SGC) for a garden gun, as it’s technically a shotgun, even though it's more of a novelty or specialized tool for close-range pest control. Like others have mentioned, they’re fun for short-range stuff like rats in the shed, but I’d agree that an air rifle can often be more efficient for most garden pest control, especially if noise is a concern. I also used mine to teach gun safety to the kids—it’s great for that and definitely brings a bit of nostalgia with the old-school feel. Just be mindful of barrel length regulations—anything shorter than 24"
  8. The NocPix Ace H50R is definitely an interesting option, but if you're looking for a high-performance thermal scope in the same range, you might want to check out the AGM Rattler V2 TS50-640. 640×512 Sensor – Delivers sharp, high-contrast images 50mm Lens – Ideal for long-range detection up to 2,600 yards 50Hz Refresh Rate – Smooth tracking, even on moving targets Compact & Durable – Lightweight design without sacrificing performance For anyone considering a high-quality thermal scope, it’s worth taking a look: AGM Rattler V2 TS50-640
  9. Nice one, mate! Good to see you back at it.
  10. I get why some folks go back to springers—no tanks, no leaks, no expensive servicing. Just pick it up and shoot. They can be a bit heavier and require more technique, but there's a certain satisfaction in mastering one. I still prefer PCPs for consistency, but a well-tuned springer can be a joy to shoot.
  11. Sounds like you've had some excellent shotguns in your hands!
  12. Beretta shotguns are known for their reliability, smooth cycling, and excellent craftsmanship, making them a top choice for hunting, sport shooting, and home defense. Whether it’s a new A400, 1301, or 686 series, you can expect great balance, durability, and performance. Beretta keeps refining their designs, so any new model is worth checking out. Solid choice for anyone in the market for a quality shotgun!
