Nice one lads, does you good having a decent walk out to blow the cobwebs away. Managed a retrieve yesterday, when out beating with the old beddy cross.
-
Had a look out beating today with me english pointer and beddy cross. Was good day out. A hare got up and one of guns cliped it luckally the beddy cross nailed it before it ran off injured. Pictures not the best, off me phone

Not sure how much you have worked your dog, but as someone else has suggested it may come good given plenty of work, especially easy rabbits if you can manage to find some. You may have already tried this, but if not its worth getting him/her back out their if your gona keep him anyway. Best of luck

Never had a beddyxwhippet but my beddywhippet x beddygrey doesn't yap at all, neither does me mates beddywhippet x colliegrey. Was your dog getting plenty catches when it was out lamping and started off on some easy ones ?

I trained my beddywhippet x beddygreyhound up from a pup and had no real problems. Read a couple of books first and used purdy's progress video as my guide. Would recomend getting a young pup if your gonna train it up yourself. Best of luck what ever you choose.

Quality photo's mate Always good seeing a dog thinking about whats going on underground. Whats that hung up the tree, can't quite make it out ?
-
Looking at that pic it's one of the spots I go to lol Got hit by mixi bad this year. Looking forward to the other pics.

Copy and paste the IMG bit under the picture not one of the other one's. Seems to work for me. Sounds like you've been out close to wear I go.
-
Cheers everyone. Seems like general view is that they are trainable but need a bit of extra effort and care than some breeds. Sounds as if they can easily be upset when young, so gently and carefully is the way. Anyone have a pure saluki that would retrieve hare's before the ban ?

Looks like a crackin day out. Am jealous as fook. Must be nice just to be up there , never mind running the dogs.
-
Nice one, good when all hell breaks lose and they bolt together.
-
I would get a pair of ferrets if you could, aparently they prefer company. Either a pair of jills or a hob and a jill (one wil need the snip/spaying if you don't want to breed them). Keeping 2 hobs together may cause problems when they get older. Make sure you have a decent place to keep them first. They have a natural instinct to go down rabbit holes so no real training needed. Should get yourself a book on ferrets/ ferreting if you can. I have no real preferance over a hob or jill, both work.

Few Hours Out This Morning (same as on smoochers)
Marty O Hare posted a topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
My ferreting partner in crime could'nt make it today ( severe case of man flu ) so I decided to head out with the old beddy cross for a change as my mate normally fetches his shotgun and I don't like to mix dog's and shoty's when ferreting, so it was a nice change. Started off well with the dog catching a bunny only a hundred yards or so from car but when he fetched it back it had mixi, so not the best of starts. We finished up with 4 healthy rabbits, not the best of bags but we had fun for a few hours anyway. I finally managed to catch a black rabbit aswell which put a smile on me -
Do they settle in the house ok and are they alright with kids if kept from pups ? Cheers for the replies people
-
Sounds promising. Not ready for a pup yet mate cheers tho. I lived/worked in Kirkby in Liverpool for a few years gtomo used to get a few bunies in the sand dunes north of liverpool, tricky buggas tho.

Nightmare, hope you get them back safe and sound.

My beddy cross is getting on a bit now and I can tell he's sore after a run out so its about time for retirement I think, exept the odd run here and their. I really fancy a saluki x grey or saluki x grey/whippet next when the time comes for a new pup. Just wondering how trainable this cross would be i.e recall and retrieveing and would like to hear from people who run such a cross. I realise it's a different kind of dog to a beddy cross and am prepared to put in the time with training. A pic of a saluki we had when I was a kid ;

We used to have a saluki when I was a kid, lovely looking animal, had great stamina on the hares and very game. Turned out it was too game as it once jumped the fence a killed a little dog being walked passed our house Was fine with our other greyhound cross tho. It had to go when it started to growl at me and my brother, so it went off to some lads for foxing. The only dog we have ever had to pass on, shame. I would'nt mind a saluki cross greyhound as my next dog when the time's right. Here's an old pic that was scanned, pretty poor quality pic and it does'nt do the dog real
