  3. If they have exactly the same parents then they might as well be littermates the result on paper is exacty the same, its a brother to sister mating and thats way too close Nicola
  4. Dont be to hard on yerself it happens to everyone..... 5. This kind of thing happens more than you would like to guess thats for sure, I paid £750 to a well known trainer a few years ago for a 14mth old dog, took me 3mths to get him out the kennel without peeing himself not trained at all, and in the end I lost the money and gave him away as a pet ! I sell the ocassional dog on, I trial my spaniels as well as work them, if I overstock on young dogs or have one that doesnt make the grade for trials then I sell one on, but I am alway 110% honest as to the dogs failings and why its for sale and thi chap has certainly not been honest with you that
  6. Can I ask why you are thinking of getting a cross ? a springer is more than capable of hunting and retrieving and a lab makes an excellent shooting companion, so depending what your shooting why not get a springer or a lab rather than a cross breed ? I can't see the benefit of a cross at all ? Nicola
  7. I have no problem with that term at all I just noticed the flag on your profile, the big dog in that clip came from your part of the world 6 years ago as a 7 week old pup, and infact just got aother pup not so long ago from Ireland, cracking spaniel lines across there Nicola
  8. Thanks very much Macnas Geoff C I would have loved to video a retrieve but the snow got a bit much for my wee phone, so decided to stop it there couldn't have it getting soaked any further. Maybe get some more when we are out with them tomorrow. Nicola

  10. Hello Nicola I have heard about anti-biotics for bitches prior to conception and yes it does seem strange that she has missed two matings. She also has phantom pregnance's where she produces milk and seems a bit run down, so maybe worth a course of anti-biotics aswell, as she may have developed an infection because of the phantom. I have some anti-biotics so I will give her a course, it will not hurt. thanks for gogging my rusty memory Lee Hi lee You're most welcome , it does sound like anti-biotic may help out. fingers crossed for next time, keep us posted Nicola
  11. I personally never use any more than a rope slip lead, I never have owned a chocke chain and never will, but k9wpg has made some sensible points about it' use. Davieboy it's only been a week that you have been using this method, fair enough she's doing well but you are already worried about her running loose, perhaps worth keeping the training up for another week or two before letting her loose building up to walking short distances with the chain loose until she heels 110% or you rush and are back to square one again, training is al about repitition and the walls being in place before the
  12. Blood test would be a ood way to go to be certain she takes the next time she's in season, before she's due in season say about 2 weeks before she's due in it might be worth getting the vet to give you some anti-biotics for her to prevent any infections that may be lurking there as it seems v strange she's been mated for 2 seaons and not had pups ? Nicola

  16. I would agree with Missymoo dogs can't digest cows milk so goats milk would be better if you add that to the ood, would still recommend tripe though. As for shooting over 6mth old dog of any breed I am not going there Nicola
  17. Thanks all for the emails and pm's I am pleased to say she's been found a new home Nicola
  18. Poor quality and not very flattering but this is a picture of her
  19. I don't insure any of mine instead I put money away each month into a seperate pot to cover any vet costs, you will find v few inurance companies cover "working" dogs for injuries etc out in the field and if they do then they are v v expensive. Niola
  20. Thanks for the interest shown so far the little girl is still available Nicola
  21. Just try and not let your head rule your heart, at the end of the day if you're not 100% happy with the breed of dog then you will not put 100% into the training and working of it, setting for 2nd best isn't always a safe bet Just a word of caution, sure you will reach the right choice Nicola
  22. Eddie Martin dvd or the books that are good are Nigel Mann or Susan Scales. Nicola

  25. For a trained springer expect to pay between 600 and a grand minimum labradors are generally much more, but again depends on who trains them and why they are for sale, I have been caught out before buying a trained dog Nicola
