i would take them off, two of mine came without and it is great! Two had and they are always damaging them!
-
Nice pup! I like the dad!
-
So sorry to hear about your dog, you did everything for him
-
I find mine are the same as yours just sleep inside, don't bark chew or doing any damage. They get loads of exercise too!

Excuse my ignorance but how does is spoil the dogs whether they sleep on a sofa or sleep in a shed? My dogs are house dogs not used for hunting, but given the chance they would take a deer no problem!! That is what they were breed to do, why does their living condition affect their working ability?

Thank god someone who Really knows their shit has spoken and lifted the scales from my hollow eyes! Now I'll know never again to keep Four Dogs, including a lurcher And This F*cker indoors for seven years again. No. I'll just chuck all my Dogs out in the yard. Sling water in their faces and electricute them by day as I wait for the local Chav Scum and Junkies to come for them by night. Then I can come on here and blame " Travellers " for all my woes Brilliant! I wish I'd thought of that! FFS. FFS is right, no wonder one of my lurchers is so messed up!! Wha

my dog .do you think she look nice

I love Salukis and I think she is a cracking dog!! -
I am pretty sure both the black and brindle dog are more then capable of working and I would be lieing if I said they never took anything. The brindle dog was breed by a guy who wanted two more dogs. He did very little with the pups and left them in a shed until they were 6mths. They were all undersocialised and it has taken a lot of time to get him to be a well adjusted dog. The black saluki cross I got at 18mths he only has eyes for deer, he's not interested in fox, would probably be interested in rabbit but we don't have any around here. These dogs didn't start out as pets they have beco

i didn't really know how poeple felt about people like me who only rehome lurchers but don't work them. never been on a hunting fourm before only rescue. I realised form one post that a lot of the people would rather shoot their dogs then let them become a pet only so i was just checking! Thats all

I guess I meant working dogs that don't work! We only have deer, fox and hare where I walk, not allowed to touch them. but they do get the odd course
-
Thanks, I am proud of my dogs not because of what they catch but becasue they are amazing hounds and we have the best time together out on our daily walks!!

I have posted a few times, mainly on rescue dogs thread as that is what I have rescued lurchers. I love running dogs but don't work them, so hoping its ok I frequent your site as I love nothing more then seeing and reading about lurchers!! thought I would let you know who I am and what I am about as I have posted a couple of times! Here are some pictures of my hounds Smooth Bitch saluki She is 9 now and not in the best condition due to years of serious medical conditions. She did catch her first hare when she was 8mtsh, not my intention at all Here is my saluki x greyhound(?)

Advice on a rescue bullX Lurcher?
spookster replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have found that all my rescued lurchers(none of which were bullx. Saluki and deerhound x's) have been perfect in the begining! They have all been off lead from the early days and recall 100%. They all eventually got more confident , nothing terrible, but they did teach me not to be complacent!I found them all to have a wonderful 'honeymoon' period Good luck with your boy, looks like he is going to be a good one!! -
Better picture, rescue pup not sure of her breeding, looks whippet, do you think she is a cross back too straight?? shes about 18mth.

Dogs that dont nake the grade

Sorry I really didn't plan on posting much but listening and learing! I agree lurcher rescues are bursting, breeders have to be more responsible, shooting everything doesn't seem acceptable to me(obviously) dumping on rescue isn't the answer. Trying to find goods homes is the first answer, neutering rubbish dogs before the go and pts as a loat option so the dog doesn't suffer! There are too many unwanted lurchers, that I am not responsible for, taking in and giving unwanted dogs a great home is what I am responsibily for!! -

I will only say sorry for the bit that you weren't replying to me (sorry) but I still don't agree with shooting every dog that deosn't work for an individual!! I do agree with not passing dogs on as workers when they are not, we owe it to the dogs to be truthfull! -

Do you think all those dogs I posted pictures of are better off dead sure they are just as happy with there life as your working dogs are! The pictures say it all. I understand not all pet homes are going to be right but I think you owe it to your dog to do the best for them when their working days are over!! pts is an easy option!! edited to add all the recued lurchers I know are neutered so they aren't going to be bred from. So maybe if ownere neutered their non workers before rehoming them that would gaurentee no useless pups from them??? I did not say anything about retireing but -

Just a little addition. when I took my boys lure coursing the boys who organised it, asked if they could put spook onto thier bitch. They didn't know he was a recued hound they just say a very keen dog that ran very well!! Being a resuce boy he is neutered, good or not he wont be reproducing so no problems with more hounds coming from most 'pet home' hounds! -

I don't agree that pts should be the first option, I am so pleased the people who had my lot before me didn't chose that option. i can't imagine life without them! here are some pictures of a walk I was on with 18 rescued lurchers and greyhounds! Some of thses dogs were in a real mess when taken on by their pet homes and look at them now, happy and fit!
