    That’s a cross you don’t see a lot of would be interesting.. and one id consider my self, I’ve ran alsorts of crosses from saluki x bull types to deerhound and collie types even whippets Wheaton and beddy crosses one that stood out for me had to be the deerhound collie grey.. he had everything you look for in a dog still lamping at 11 year old.. injury free good feet coat brains and a very high drive

    Don’t get me wrong I have seen first cross put plenty in the bag.. and not run out of steam!.. I think they just lack that extra bit of pace when it’s needed if there on the quarry it’s game over

    Depends how much collie blood is in them I have a beddy/grey x collie/grey drive in her is unreal when on the chase..

    A friend ran a saluki/grey x collie/grey years ago it did seam a useful lamping dog

    See a pure whippet wouldn’t be any good for me a whippet based lurcher could be useful.. I need something that is quick off the mark and something that works well around cover.. in all size fields/terrain a dog that can take a knock or two.. I would put a good whippet dog to my bitch in a few seasons if she keeps it up ? Who knows.. it’s finding a good whippet these days would be a problem?? I like the beddy cross.. but think a first cross lacks that extra gear!

    I’ve seen a springer x Russell work and to be fair it was a handy dog lad on a local shoot had it always finding and catching rabbits in the cover hell of a nose on it never give a false mark

    Seen it first hand with whippets maybe it’s just the ones I’ve seen?? Frustrated yapping when they can’t pick it up who knows

    ?? nothing against them just wouldn’t own one here I took one on a night out it was the first dog back in the car until we finished didn’t have the go in her the weather well and truely finished her off!!

    For me this little dog at the front has to be one of the best rabbit dogs I’ve seen work.. not my dog but had pleasure of working him.. he was a deerhound/greyhound x collie/greyhound 24inches tall he had that do or die attitude about him still amazes me how he caught on the places and land he did not just rabbits either a real dog worth shouting about

    Plenty of vocal ones about too and whippets that open up on a chase ?

    Some whippets tend to yap.. I’ve seen it first hand.. and terriers can be pretty vocal to surely the two together would increase that happening ???? Just my opinion cross would have it’s uses like others

    Very nice I do like a beddy cross or grew I wouldn’t get away with a straight whippet up here.. my experience they can’t handle a good night in the worst of weather
