    Got a bit here for you mate if your bothered it is second hand but you are better off buying good second hand gear than new rubbish gear. They're 2 TST 2 3/4lb tc, nash hooligun 2 rod pod, 2 fox warrior alarms and fox matching bobins only used the set up around 7 times, then joined a new syndicate wich allowed 3 rods so went and bought new setup, however you will need some reels for the rods, £140 if you are interested ( i think rods are on ebay at £100 buy it now)

    Good informative post bud, from the little i know that is something i have picked up, that different dogs will suite different places. The dog i have is around 14tts but i cant span him to around an inch meaning he will only be able to work fox in old rabbit earths them other things have cleaned out. However opening a can of worms for me as if i get a mark on a place i will be unsure what is in there, only guessing off my own smell of the holes and whats around the earth but as we all know there could be both in there at this time of year and not always obvious clues around the earth to whats

    Cheers for replies lads all appreciated, a few of the pup ive just taken on, very strong dog and seems a bit too forward however not yet to work him as he is only 8 month, took him the other week and let him have a look and he was wanting a bit too much, will keep pics coming of him, out tomorow hope we drop on

    Does anybody yet know why this is then or is it just down to pure luck of the draw? By this i mean does the breed of the dog have influence, age its dug to, hardness of the dog or is it just down to luck and how the dog takes to a preferred style of work? I'm guessing by mating two perfect earthdogs there is zero guarantee another specimen of this dog will be produced from the litter? Hence why some lads have good dogs and others have average dogs, or is the owner of the dog at blame for a poordog??? It would be interesting to get others views on this as i am interested in learning

    1 THING YOUR'E WELL WRONG ABOUT IS GETTING YOUR QUARRY, No1 PRIORITY IS GETTING THE DOG,SAFETY OF THE TYKE COMES BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. THE QUARRY COMES 2ND. JMO. Dont dig much then mate . like a said am new to it mate unlike you whos pro at the game

    Relating back to the comment about the quarry not being priority, then whats the point in working a dog, surely the keepers ask you on to control the fox not worry about the dog, even though it is important to keep the dog ready for another dig. If the quarry isnt important then why not run the dog through an empty earth where you know there is no danger??? I've heard terrier men refer to the dogs as tools, whereas you can go and get another if the worst is to happen but then again a top dog needs to be faced with a sticky situation and do its outright best to overcome this.     Everybody has different views when it comes to working terriers, at the end of the day you've go to get to your quarry but dogs may do this in different ways, either a bayer or a stayer. I am new to terrier work and just got my first terrier, i've been taken on a few digs with an experienced lad and shown the basics. However the only dog i've seen graft does a bit of both it vocal and at the same time strong enough to hold and due to this can take a bit of poke.     it aint look as though them 2 have done that, no blood unda charlies jaw or on it neck, top of dogs heads arent scratched either, no chance them 2 ave done it, bronsons fur is still dry, thers been snow on ground up here for near on 3 week now

    That not 17lb mate no way, no head or belly on it plus its laid on a tent holder which are about 2 ft long he just touching 10 and looks bout same size Got this one from the same loch.My best ever 17ib 4oz.Will get the 20 pounder yet atb. Catcher

    This is my new lad brin, 13 week old dog hopefully going to make 12/13" tts. Game as f**k, not very good quality pics as camera not 2 gud but will try and get sum more on of him having a thrash, Breeding is 1/4 bull and 3/4 patterdale, father was nuttalls copper. Luks like he's gonna be a little handfull By the way how do you upload files that are bigger than 500k?

    jus bought myself a pit pat dog, he carries 1/4 bull and 3/4 pat, father copper from nuttall yard mother half cross bull to patt, Pups bin bred to slow em down a bit as mother didnt feel pain and wernt baying at all. only 8 week old, hoping he'l make 12' ish to shoulder so can slip down them charli holes. Carrying a big peanut alreadi will try and get sum pics up of him
