well folks. i was out at the weekend at an old hospial grounds doing a bit of ferreting on sunday morning with one of the lads. we have been hit really hard this year with mixy so its a real challenge trying to get a rabbit latley which makes it all the more fun. we pulled up about 10 o'clock and seen too rabbits which ran straight for the ditch as soon as they were aware of our presence. we jumped the gate and got started and put a few nets down over the first set of burrows we seen, ans the first one we seen those rabbits run into. we netted up all the holse and i got out my young kit lucy w

lucky for you. alot of lads of people round my way enjoy shooting them, but hardly anybody ferrets. people think im insane when they see me coming along with my ferret box and gear. people are terrified of them. one landowner asked me when i was heading onto his land to try and net a few rabbits, did i sow their mouths shut before i leave or do i do it when i get there!!! i tried to explain to him that their not vicous once you handle them and care for them, but he just couldnt understand. needless to say when i took one out from my box and let her crawl from the bottom of my jacket up onto my

i mean dry food kay!!! james wellbeloved to be exact! i gave them the nuts first and they were eating away and i arived at the door of my thier hutch with the meat a few minutes later and the young kit and spooted me and took it straight from my hand while the older one had its back turned and she was gone into her corner like a flash! you just can't get anything more satisfying than listening to the chuckles of the little one when she hears you coming with food. i must take a few photo's and post them up for everyone to see

i gave the two of them a good feed of nuts and a nice lump of raw meat cuts that where left from the dinner. like you said kay, it was all gone this morning. i definitly have to increase the food im giving them.

i can see what you mean. maybe i should shake up the diet a bit. i know my kit came from small working stock, the man i bought him off told me he only bred from small hobs and jills. maybe thats why she is a skinny little thing. the other is a year old albino. i bought her a month ago and the lad i bought her from said she was last years. she's nice and tough and sturdy. im not sure if she has been wormed though. perhaps i should worm and vacinate them both to be on the safe side of things.

looks like you had fun. well done!

could there be a possibilty that maybe the skinny one in your litter is at the bottom of the pecking order and is getting its food eatin by the others?

hi folks have a quick question to ask you! i have two ferrets at home, one is last years and she is nice and plump when i acquired her, i know that her previous owner had been feeding her on cat food and i thought, id change her diet to what i feed mine and she has been on liver, kidney and mince since she arrived, as that is what i feed my ferrets. her coat has become far more softer now aswell. i also have a kit at home, she is about 20 weeks old so she is and she is terribly skinny. everyday i give them a half a piece of liver each, or a lambs kidney each, or a bit of mince for themselves

wisdom needed for hunting the fox
stevoman replied to stevoman's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
and what would be the best way for calling them, where should i set up to hide or do i walk? also whats the best call for them? -
okay folks, hard to admit but i dont have much experience in hunting foxes. i have done some night lamping with the rifle with friends, but i was wondering whats the best advice you can give for hunting them with a shotgun. I wont be going around hunting them at night time so what id the best time apart from that to try and hunt them down, also what are the best technigues to doing so aswell. thanks for your help, stephen

i keep being told about being able to open a cartridge and fill the pellets with candlewax to make it into one entire slug. lads i know have said they have done this for lamping foxes. has anyone any experience from doing this before, or am i going to get half my shotgun barrell in my mouth if i even attempt it? cheers lads
