  1. I don’t know if they change based on the weather or not. I do know you can find them in the north in cold states like Michigan (the northern part of the state) as well as further west. I ended up west hunting my dogs a few years back because they were quite big for my area being 25lbs
  2. I didn’t mean anything negative about it. I was just helping inform people or repeating what the guide told me when i used the same term. But that being said We did find them. I think you are confusing me with the other man that said he didn’t find them. I dug to two the last time i was out there. But you are certainly right they are not the same as the European badger at all
  3. They are not truly nomadic. Nomadic animals have no territory the American badger have a territory that they do not leave and they are highly territorial. I used to think there were nomads myself but the guide we used to locate them proved me wrong.
  4. They use earth sets but they move frequently. Out west If you can find parrie dog communities you can often find them not too far. That’s how we tracked them down. Their sets here are not as complicated as the sets over there (although there have been some DEEP digs to them this side. That being said they are FAR FAR more aggressive here in the states. If something enters their set they come looking for a fight. Above ground they are also very aggressive.
  5. I have done badger work in Utah. Also went out to New Mexico in hopes of doing badgeR work but did not have success... I do not recommend putting a terrier on coyotes at any point in time. A healthy adult coyote will demolish a single terrier very quickly. Anyone that says different is either putting a lot of bull blood in their dogs or they are flat out liers who do not hunt
  6. Also you can work ground hog with bigger dogs but you will have to dig them out at each bend in the set which is a pain
  7. Some of the ac breedings Will throw small dogs. So I have a couple that can work ground hog. As far as travel I’ve hopped in a plane for a 4 hr flight and then drove for 9 hours to hunt a couple of times. More often though I’ll get on a plane and then have to drive 2-3 hours and work the dogs. someone asked what i do with the dogs after hunting it just depends if they are appropriate I’ll fly them back with me you have to use caution if you do this and kinda know the airlines systems (I’ve learned a lot because if fly frequently if you are not crossing country boarders and know what you are d
  8. I only know one other person in the south with it (they have one female)other then jambalaya all of the rest of it is up north. And it was initially imported by men up north
  9. We have large coons here in the south as well. There are just more of them the further you go north. AC stuff was more centrally located north initially. It wasn’t until recently that AC stuff made it south. But it had nothing to do with their size. I had some Ken dogs, some old booth, some American nuttall, some new mason stuff. It just didn’t pan out for me. I’m sure someone has those bloods in good form but what I had didn’t suit me. It just happened by chance that AC stuff has made me happy
  10. No we work all of them everywhere. Each situation challenges the terriers in a different way. My terriers are big by American standards. But I’ve worked as far north as Upper Peninsula Michigan as far south as south Georgia and as far west as Colorado
  11. Really all depends. I guess each job is different regardless of north or south. I’m south but we have a good bit of ground hog. Although that is not what i normally end up on. Jambalaya is west of me so they have fewer then here. Those coons up north do get bigger and can require a bigger terrier
  12. The other dogs never got my attention honestly. The ones I saw work were not gritty enough for my liken. I liked the way the Patterdales or fella worked more so Russell’s over here are a dime a dozen and most wouldn’t succeed where I hunt... would you not consider the nuttall dogs black ones? (I know there was Russell crossed into many of them)
  13. Not making friends I’m just attempting to talk dogs. Nothing more
  14. Here we can pic and choose set sizes to some degree. If I work near water Which is where i do most of my hunting you will find larger sets. However here in the states many if not most people work groundhogs. This is often done on farm areas their sets will be MUCH smaller. For this kind of work you will need a much smaller dog
  15. I’d be more then happy to carry on a serious conversation about the work i do or I’ve experienced with friends. It’s certainly a little different but fun work nonetheless
  16. Not trying to kid you i said what i had to say about it. Put my money we’re my moth is. I can worry about any man that is so easily misled
  17. Stocky dogs simply won’t get into Many of our sets You are at a disadvantage with a stocky dog. But I hear you
  18. Wouldn’t I avoid such convo if that was the case??? I’m just saying quality of bulldogs dropped over here as they tightened the strings
  19. It is a good laugh but i will say the future will be in a place with more open minded laws.... not so much because whether or not the work can be carried out but because as the generations go by the class of men will decline due to concerns of dealing with the law unfortunately.
  20. I think we both the the same way about one another. When you say that
  21. Agreed lol ? they all sent shit to us not a single good dog of course I’m not being serious but you win
  22. We are not taking about names of people or dogs. We are talking about history. I certainly catch your drift on the second note. Makes total sense. Genetics work that way. The mind Frame of the man behind them can cause a family of dogs to go a different direction.
  23. You know what you’re right... there are no good terriers in America. Not a single one. There was never an man from your side honest enough to make sure he only sent dogs he could be proud of to us. You’re right that never happened.... I’m not the special one believe you me. That being said one more attempt to keep going forward. I will say I do think the terriers will change from what they were over there because the jobs here are different. But that being said that is the case with all working animals they should continue to improve and evolve...So if that’s what you mean by all of that I
  24. Wasn’t trying to go in circles you were the one that can’t have a straight answer to a serious question. Our side has made great improvements to multiple animals that came from your side. Birds, game dogs so on and so forth. Game dogs don’t have a future here due to the laws here. There is no eco system for improvement which prompted me to say what I did about the terriers. But the quality of them other animals outright outclass the quality that you are dealing with over there (birds and game dogs that is). As for the other stuff you are free to believe what you want. Makes no sense but
