  4. Anybody have this cross? I picked up a well bred pup from a litter a pal put me onto. This is Sox 1/2 whippet 1/4 bull 1/4 greyhound. 7 weeks old.
  5. Cheers pal, I'm very happy with what he's done so far, quite literally excelling head over heels
  6. Hows that bred mate? First cross bull whippet bud.. the whippet side is very closely bred sooty Sam stuff and the pit side is all shadow/frisco bred

  10. There both 21 tts but I no longer have the bitch as the begin fighting and I had to make a decision so I choose my black dog which I've had since a pup.
  11. Aye pal, plenty good feeding and plenty of outing, totally different bitch now
  12. A quick update , 14 months now, ace has seen abit and nothing bothers him, the bitch has only seen rabbits so far
  13. It's good hunting , good craic too , cheers pal
  14. I'm from cork pal , it's a pack of teckels we hunt and when the fox breaks the lurcher is slipped so the dog suits what we do
  15. I never said I struggled, I said they were a lot to handle, which they can be at times, I'm not putting down the cross I've had many but I believe you don't need a dog of that size if your at only foxes. I agree, if its only foxes, a committed 22" bull/whippet is more than capable. But if its a game dog, and you have to resort to managing it on a physical level, mentally,a game dog is not for you. Bonny dogs by the way. Only fox is what I do, cheers pal

  17. Yeah we must do pal, season won't be long coming around again
  18. I've heard the same stories pal, the difference is the breeding, most lads have put any pit to any whippet, I've seen many great bull x's and I've seen many great small dogs , both equally good on a good number of foxes , each have the positives and negatives , Everyone has their own view on the perfect lurcher, horses for courses and what not.
  19. A terrier can kill a fox , I don't understand why people have this misconception that a big lurcher is needed. As I've said before I've seen small lurchers put big dogs to shame, doing good numbers season after season, pits take stick it's what they are bred to do , for hours on end , they are smaller than a whippet and I've seen plenty pits dispatch a fox well faster than most lurchers , proper bred dogs will and always have continued to prevail.difference sully is like getting hit with a light weight boxer and a heavy weight I like to see the job done quicker rather than later Each to their

  21. We have a pack of teckels and lamp , what I've seen so far is the bull whip is more than capable, I've tried big bull x and had dogs doing all game, good honest animals but you don't need a 28" bull cross to kill a fox , I've seen 21" lurchers doing good numbers season after season , I've seen collie hounds out last bull x's , the big bull x's bring to much attention and quite honestly most of the time there a sick extention of the dick holding the lead. I've had good animals as I said but I will never keep a big bull x again but that's my personal choice , different dogs for different needs.
  22. Not everyone who's working bull x is using them to take things with teeth but I get what your saying if your only catching a few a season you'll do ok with them smaller faster types I expect but when you start giving them a good bit of stick youll see why a lot have tried em and gone back to tried and tested bull /greyhound. Atvb We do a lot more than a few a season , again I think it's down to breeding , a dog that's bred properly will do the task in hand , a lot of people have tried the cross but a lot of people tried any whippet to any pit , no purposely game bred dogs to properly bred wh
  23. Would you not say you are narrowing down your options though mate?...........a good big dog will give you a lot more tools in the box than a good little dog do you not think ? Like we only do fox so the cross is suited to us , a smaller dog can kill a fox no problem , I get what your saying and of course it would matter if we were at other game in regards to leg etc
  24. A proper big bull x is a lot to handle if he is a proper game dog , some people have no need for that size and gameness, in all honesty you don't need a big bull x for fox it's just to much, that's the reason I am going down the route of properly breed bull whippets , 21" or 22" and properly bred dogs will do for foxes, you kept the gameness of the pit but downsize them a bit which makes them just as game at a fraction of the size, in my eyes a perfectly suitable fox dog.
