doc90 you think what i said is daft well ive had lurchers 40 years and worked them well into there teens with no injury by not starting them to soon starting a dog as a puppy is daft it s body cant take the strain let the dog mature and you will have years from a good one many a good dog is put down because an owner cant wait, as a puppy teach it to fetch a ball with put spin on it so that it goes from side toside this will teach your dog when to strike so that when it has to catch a rabbit its ready and the timing is there.i know people staring a pup at 6 months old then you hear its done it wrist or done its shoulder or hip all because the dog was not ready for what you are asking the pup to do.it a working life finished before its started the dog is always blamed but its the owner bigger the dog more time needed get the dog musceled up first and ready to though training.JUST DONT RUSH GIVE THE DOG TIMEand reep the rewards.

the only daft one here is doc90 i got a bitch just turned a year this will be her first season i wouldnt start a dog untill it was atleast 9 months

9-12months lol.

dont rush the dog should be 9-to12months old teach it to fetch to hand nothing to heavy you dont want it to have to bite down to hard or it will make it hard mouthed

Dont go shooting rabbits to improve your shooting, practice getting tighter groups from different position and when you know your point of aim for different distances and strenth of wind. Then go hunting rabbits. If you cant get a head shot at 30 to 40 yards then dont bother its cruel to the anilmal and dosnt do our sport any good, but provides more ammo for the anti's!
