My First Roe Buck - 6 Pointer

Recommended Posts

Last weekend I went stalking with a friend who asked me if i'd like to take a Roe Buck of his ground, I've been stalking several times on Roe and Muntjac but this was my first stalk on a Buck.

We arrived approx 17:00 on a lovely Saturday evening, we started the evening in the high seat, and after 45 minutes the Roe Doe appeared with a Buck following, They we're approx 100 yards away in crops, I could only see head so we waited for them to return to edge line to get a clean shot.

After watching for 30 minutes the Doe started making her way back to the woods, the Buck directly behind, they come into the clearing bouncing and went straight back into edge of woods, 10 minutes later they re-appeared at other side of field approx 300 yards, We then decided to got out of the high seat and stalk into them via a spray line. I grabbed my Primos trigger sticks and worked my way bent over double down a spay line with my .243.

We got within 60 yards and they we're in and out like crazy the Buck was on a mission :icon_eek: my friend then spotted them pop back out but I was too late getting into position and they had vanished back into woodland, we then stopped in position and tried calling for several minutes....

The Doe then popped out with Buck directly behind, I was in stable shooting position on sticks and mounted to scope following the Buck, he stopped to have a sniff of the Doe and I took the shot, clean shot to the heart / Lung using sako gamehead 100g.

With it being my first Buck I wanted to mount head to a trophy plate so after some advise I started work with the Head and mounted in man shed.
