Federal Game Shok Or Remmington Yellow Jacket??

Would you believe it. I managed to get up to my rfd and he'd sold out of game shok. He had the remmingtons but I thoughy better of it. I bought 50 cci subs and some winchester super x high velocity. Conclusions...... my gun does not like cci subs. No where near as good groups as eley or rws subs. Winchester super x? Sounded good! Again accuracy really poor. Hopefully he'll be getting some game shok back in soon so I will possibly have a go with those. As an inexperienced shooter I can now fully see the argument around the pointlessness of HV. Theyre no good for crows anyway.

60 yard zero for subs also gives me 100 yard zero for hv's or thereabouts, depending on the brand/ammo, so for me it's worth carrying a few.

Cheers for that I may well try out that theory. I need to get hold of something better than the winchesters though,

my brno hates them. I know you cant expect the same level of accuracy with hv. But they were rubbish! Love tge tips its really helping me gain some experience. Just back from holiday so hopefully get some shooting done before I go back to work on thursday.

You should be able to find some HV's that suit your rifle, RWS or SK would be worth a try. So many people dismiss high velocity .22's because they believe them to be innaccurate, however, I've found some to be pretty much as accurate as hollowpoint subs. Eley high velocity hp were spot on in my anschutz but aren't available anymore. CCI Velocitors work ok for me though, not as accurate as the eleys, but I can consistently hit a golf ball sized target at 100 yards with them so they do work. Just a matter of investing in a few boxes and a bit of trial and error. It's the only way to find out for yourself really.

Hi, its been a while. In that time I have got a new hawke rimfire scope, I have also got some CCI 40 gr mini mags. I wish I had pics gents the combination is phenominal. Yes, Im sure some will say Its cheating, but in my eyes anything which makes you more efficient and accurate is great. Better clean and humane kills. I shot sub 1 inch grouping at 100yards and opened up to 1 1/2 inches at 150 yards. I wouldnt shoot anything routinely at this range though. Anyway great round, really good scope.

I can't actually remember ever using the Federal game Shok in .22lr.

Back in the day the Rem Yellow Jacket HP (about 1500ft sec I remember) was very good in my CZ452, but so too was the CCI Velocitor, which hit harder but tended to expand less (and were often very tight to chamber). I don't use either anymore, my .22lr are sub sonic tools, if I want more I use my HMR or WMR, which in both cases, are far more efficient/accurate than HV ammo in a .22lr.

People rave about Eley Subs but I've never been overly impressed with them for field work, If you can find them try a box of Magtech subs, they used to be really cheap but are far from it now, and remain my first choice ammo for my .22lrs.

Whatever works for you.

I think the 'target boys' who use those AR15 look alike .22 semi autos probably use HV as they cycle the action much better even

when it starts to get dirty (which isn't long in a repeater).

They also aren't 'snipers' and spray the rounds all over the place so deadly consistency is not high on the priority list.

But anyway, horses for courses, in my patch the fewer people aware of my presence the better, so it's subs in bolt gun for me

all day (and night)..
