Hunter Wellie Problem

i bought a pair of hunter wellies over a year ago [can,t remember the model]

they are the ones with a waklking boot type sole and are excellent , comfy ,and they could be worn allday,

i was origonaly just going to get the standard hunter wellie but was persuaded by the shop assistant that these pair were more comfy and when the soles wear down they can be resoled in the same way as a standard walking boot.

so although they were more expensive i thought long term a better bet due to the resoleing ability.

so one year later the heel on one boot is badly worn so i enquired at my local shoe repair shop about a repair only to be told that he wouldn,t touch them in case he didn,t manage a totally waterproof repair thus rendering the boots useless,

so i contacted hunter wellies direct and was told basically the same thing and that they do not resole wellies and the only option was a new pair.

obviously i was not impressed and told them about my initial statenent from the sales person about the fact that resolining was possible

the hunter person was appolagetic that i had been mis informed

so that was an expensive buy for me only 1 years use out of my boots.

i should have just bought the cheaper model

does any body know of a way to repair the heel on my boot or if there is any repair kits on the market or anybody who can sort this.

How much did you fork out for them stevie? ...

 

I refuse to pay big bucks for wellies.... where one nail...or a cut from barbed wire can damage their watertight integrity and render them useless....

 

If hunter cant help you...i doubt anybody can....

 

Somebody might give it a go.... but may not be waterproof....

 

Id just buy a new pair mate....

 

40quid for a pair of stockhills... neoprene...comfy...waterproof and cheap...

 

Lasted me over 12 months and showing little sign of wear...

paid 100 quid because i had the cash at the time and where i was walking everyday was destroying my walking boots with the wet.

your right about barbed wire ,but only used them on long wet grass and to be honest are the most comfy wellies i,ve ever owned

this has probably been their downfall because they were never off my feet.

i think walking on pavements to get to the fields has caused the wear and if i did get them fixed i would only wear them on soft ground.

its being conned by the shop that is most annoying[ i would not have spent that amount of cash on something that couldn,t be repaired] and also the only bit of wear is a corner edge on one heel.

i could probably source some sort of rubber and stick it to the affected area ,but just wondered if anyone could advise on a more professional job.

otherwise i,ll probably use them till they leak and take your advise on a new pair

the hunter brand has been steadily going down hill for some years now, right about the time they became the in thing to wear at festivals, hunter couldnt keep up with demand so outsourced manufacture (china i think), quality tailed off , price stayed high.

Probably the most over priced wellies(for the quality and durability) on the market imo. I'd be slinging em back at the prick who told/sold me that they could be repaired. Lesson learned i think. atb stabba

if they are the leather lined sovereign hunters with a goodyear welted commando sole, then Hunter are telling porkies. They used to include in the box an address of a cobler in Edinburgh that was able to replace the soles ( well they did when I bought a pair of seconds from John Norris 5 years ago). Get the shop who sold you them to check in boxes of new sovereign hunters and see if they still have it in there.
