dont fanny around with day old i know someone who did and they drop like flies, get 6 week old off heat poults and let someone else deal with the dying nature and stupidity of them......

And this depends on the rearer and how many you have.

also be careful keeping them near chickens or ground chickens have previously been on as chickens carry a diesease , (black leg i think) thats fatal to turkeys

Blackhead fellas, chickens are carriers, but turkeys get it :thumbs:

 

And just find where there is a large intensive turkey shed, and get shopping :laugh::tongue2:

Also day old's are a lot cheaper, at 4 weeks old they double the price, they can be as much as £10 for small amounts.

 

the extra cost of off heat poults would be offset against the cost and effort of sorting a draught free brooder and heat lamp/heat source and light out, that would make it more expensive....
