Where have all the stalkers gone?

Recommended Posts

Just been going through some past pages in this section over the last few years and one thing is glaringly obvious - there are A LOT less topics about members getting out and about and actually doing some stalking.

Whilst i'm probably a little bias I always found this section to be the most entertaining in terms of tales of man against beast and acounts of wits and fieldcraft in action - not to mention practical demonstration / illustration of hints and tips, tactics, medal heads etc. All things that make you WANT to read it.

Discipline has been an issue - many genuine blokes have left or stopped posting due to the petty bitching and politics which seems to infect this site like a cancer. If it wasn't for a couple of regulars that stick their head above the parpet this section would turn into a mind numbing montage of reoccurring topics the search facility is choc-a-block with.

Any chance of getting the section back on track and a few more stalkers sharing their exploits, past or present... or am I alone in thinking this?

Know what you mean Matt, apart from yourself, Martin and Foxdropper not that many people post too regulary. I for one should probably post more but have always been happy just to post the odd photo. Its different when its your job day in day out, be like writing an on-line diary!

I think some have been lost to the SD, have to admit though, its more enjoyable reading it on here. The other sites seem to be more £ related and everyones an expert! Its not the easiest time of year to be shooting deer now either, the cover and crops are well up and only really roe bucks are in....muntjac cant be seen in the tall cover as easy so peoples stalking is maybe limited for a while, im sure things will pick up approaching the rut and after the harvest.

It has gone abit quiet Yokel i must admit.

Lucky you're keeping busy though mate, keep em' coming

Tommy - Never realised it was your day job mate, not half jealous although I guess it becomes like any job after a while. Still sounds a pretty damn good from where i'm sat at the moment and i'll bet the rush is still there when you do go out after the wild ones.

That office is really getting to you Matt  .Saturday cant come quick enough i'll bet come rain or shine :D .Does make you wonder though as it used to be a packed section .

I'm still here now mate :cray: got to pay for this new scope somehow :laugh:

      Hello!
I'd love to learn more people's opinions on deer hunting using dogs, as it's a very controversial topic in the hunting world. I've only ever used dogs for grouse and waterfowl hunting, but many hunters also use for deer. I write a little hunting blog on the side for fun (this is not an ad, there is no ad/affiliate on the blog but let me know if I can't link!) and I really want to write about the dog hunting controversy.
What are your opinions? For or against, why, why not etc? No judgement, just trying to get the general hunting population's opinions!
      God Bless!

Trip last Saturday to West Sussex in that evil storm, flooded roads, crazy winds .
The usual warm welcome and off out to be dropped in a high seat.3o mins later saw a little white bum ,bins  up it's a  Roe buck Doe and fawn .
Shot the fawn ,nice size Doe and waited but the other  Doe didn't return to her fawn .Green out ,healthy gralloch .
Back to the Bothy, fawn in the chilled and bald bloke to local for a nice nosh.
5am already up ,tea and biscuits meet the other guests and out .Unsuccessful hour in a different seat and off on foot to see a massive buck 10m away. Took the heart shot ,he ran and dropped. This can't be right he was massive, this is a spiker.
Me tit, scope on 9 not 0 so at 10m he looked huge .Nice clean gralloch, and luckily the guide was with me as he was a fat boy to carry.
      Great weekend, good craic,great friends
