camera tripods

Recommended Posts

I,ve seen a couple done with the aid of rod rest ends and such like, just wondering if anyone else has and got any pictures..............

Tried to do this about 6 months ago but made the mistake of using a plastic rod holder instead of metal. the result was the cradle snapped off within the first few hours of shooting.

Converting the tripod as such I didn't do but I removed the existing shaft and "shoe" and with a bit of 22mm copper pipe and some expoy stuck the rod rest on top. It all seemed ok right up till it broke.

No pictues sorry. Will i try it again, no.

i,ve seen one with a thin metal plate on top with what looked like roachpole under and over rest tops fixed on top...i think they are solid but with a softer inside...its a real solid set up and he swears by it....

Why would you rest your gun on your knee. That has to be the most unstable place to put it. Much better to use the soft bit inside of your elbow to rest in on. See here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzRYmbUldg8 .

But as for converted tripods I did have something like it once. Was the tripod from an old building optic level and i somehow used it to rest my gun on. Was not the most stable but you could adjust it to acount for any slope in the ground.
