mubz2cool 4
hi all,I am soon to be buying my first rifle for stalking, most probably will be in 6.5X55 OR 308. what scope out of the schmidt & bender and the leopld would you reccomend? the syndicate i am joining will be woodland and open moore land, will a 8x56 be ok for this? thanks for all the help, Mo Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
308 with an 8x56 will do nicely for this job. I would recommend Schmidt for stalking - the low light performance of those scopes beats the snot out of Leupold. Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
Ultimately either does the job. Do you reload? If not then 308 is the one to choose. If you do, flip a coin!! Quote Link to post
bairn79 0
I'VE GOT A 6.5 X 55 WITH A SWAROVSKI 8 X 56 SCOPE, QUALITY SET UP!! IF I WAS YOU I'D LOOK AT A SWAROVSKI SCOPE, BETTER THAN THE OTHER 2 YOU MENTION. Quote Link to post

If you do, flip a coin!! i'm not going to be reloading to start of with, but i may do later on.. is it beter to reload for the 6.5? i like the 6.5 because of what i have herd about it, that it is very accurate, the max range i am going to be shooting at is 250 yards and this is the total limate for now... Mr_Logic 5
6.5 is rarer, so easier if you reload - 308 is plentiful, though very expensive as well now. Regarding Swarovski, they're not any better than Schmidt, it's just personal preference! Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
dont no on the swaro or s&b it all depends on the style of shooting you do. ie.. you can have the best glass in the world but if you dont get the right crosshair for the job the scope is usless. i no the above to is way a head of leuepold in my eyes Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
While Leupold-bashing is common these days, as they do appear overpriced, they do offer things that other people don't, in that price range anyway. Your average VX-III, VX-3 now, offers over 90MOA of elevation adjustment; most offer about 50 MOA. The glass, while not S & B quality, is acceptably good - I have a VX-III 6.5-20 and it's excellent at night and not too shabby in low light. Their Varmint hunter ret is very good - fine enough for long range AND good for night work on the lamp. Build quality is good for the price too - they're solid, and backed by a good warranty. While they're not the best choice here, as others are better in low light and that's the ideal, they are a solid choice for many other applications. Quote Link to post
mj robson 8
Go with the Schmidt & Bender, you won't regret it. Mark. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
you won't go wrong with any glass be it s&b zesis, swaro, leupold, they all all of a good quality... I have a leupold 6.5x20x50 LR/T M1. i can't fault it, i use it as an all round scope, targets, foxing, stalking.... It is all down to personal opinion, and how big your wallet is...... good luck. Snap. Quote Link to post
rjimmer 4
When I was looking for a scope, I looked through a 7x50 Swarovski and an 8x56 S&B. Not sure if the S&B was Hundgarian or German, but the smaller Swarovski's image was much brighter so I ordered an 8x56 Swarovski. Quote Link to post
