Guest Fishaben
Hi, well done there rabbitcatcher!!! I'm new to the snaring job so I'm not really up on it too much, I have snared twice before but not caught anything. I have had snares pulled out by foxes and found the snares half way across the field and I have had them asif they have been taken but got away, the wire has been pulled tight and all bent, the loop being really small and scratch marks on the ground. I am going to set some more tonight but does anyone have any tips please? Ben Quote Link to post
woodga 170
YOU CAN HAVE SNARES AT 10 FT APART ON THE SAME RUN EVEN CLOSER AS LONG AS THEY DONT TANGLE WITH EACH OTHER WHEN THEY MAKE THERE CATCH CIRCLE WE OFTEN TAKE RABBITS FROM PARALLEL RUNS NO MORE A FEW FEET APART JUST AS LONG AS THEY DONT TANGLE WHEN SPINNING AROUND YOU WILL BE OK mate GGOOD HUNTING ALL WOODGA  Quote Link to post

Rabbithunter 456
Some tips for ya Fishaben. My name is Rabbithunter, not rabbitcatcher Go on one of PegAndGuns courses Get Decent Snares, buy them from Woodga or PegAndGun, or make yourself Set your snares on dark windy nights 7.5" x 5.5" loop 5.5" is a good setting height in normal grass. Treat each run as a different set ie; just because the full field might be short grass, you might need to set some at 5.5" and some at 6.5", there could be reeds or whatever in the middle of a run. Make sure your snare is center of the beat & not too far outside the run Use "hoop snares" in soft/sandy ground or wherever a peg wont hold, Keep at it, keep trying, it took me 3years to learn and i wouldnt exactly say that im good It wouldnt have took me 3years, if i went on one of PegAndGuns courses from the start oh, and do not use rounded pegs, as they will swivel in the ground and come loose If you need any snares, i have a few spare that i could sell you Quote Link to post

I didnt catch anything llast night but there is plenty around. I dont think I have the money for one of Pedandguns courses as much as I would love to take one. My snares are 6 strand and are gold (I think the colour might be making them a bit wary) but how much would you sell some of yours for a peice. And I live in Barnoldswick,Lancashire, so I doubt I would be able to make to Cumbria although we could try and sort something out because I would love to meet up and give it a bash with the snares.
