Sporting shooter fox snare article

Recommended Posts

Anyone read this months sporting shooter article on Fox snaring? Looks like the boffins at GWCT are about to take the credit for introducing the break away snare! Wouldnt worry about them catching much to prove they work though, their top tips for improving success are to follow the new guidelines set out by BASC, NGO and themselvs!

Nothings new with them breakaways they have developed a long winded method that costs money and is cumbersome... glenns style of design is cheap and easy to make yourself, and most of all has been tested in the field to work... the americans use quite a few different styles of breakaways and stops, etc have done for years so the GWCT are not reinventing the wheel..

hi all, seen the snare in sporting shooter mag also. first off they look the muts nuts lol.but cant see them as being any good.

the in line swivel for one will get jamed up from even the dust from your snare bag,and the end swivel will soon get jamed upfrom dirt once an animal is caught.barrel swivels cant throw dirt out but contains it within its selfe.ive used the above swivels for deep sea fishing and even salt deposits will clog them if they aint washed out after use.

the eye or lock looks like an american relax-a-lock to me,with an titainium split ring added, all nice looking but a release ferrule would do a beter job.

ive got no experiance of the glen waters type ,but looking at them ,they would do the job of any of the above and you could make your own, simple and cheap .

Everyone to their own, I make my own using locks from the states, nothing wrong with the any of the relax-a-locks, micro locks or washer locks, its down to how you use them. I still use the original rocking eye snare designed by glen and copied by many but still remains a quick effective lock. The snares are only as good as the person setting it unless you buy the crap hard wire snare from your local agricultural merchants.
