so did 2 dogs catch that 52??

yes they did. Thats two dogs with the stamina to run for four hours plus both trained with the 8 weeks old method

so both dogs roughly cought 26 each, yes

for arguments sake i will agree with what you just said. i think i know where you are heading this

your not as daft as you look then trigger :D

first of let me say i have no problem with you yousing 2 dogs, done it myself many times in the past when trying to put big numbers in the bag on real fast terraine. and you and your mates like to test your dogs together , no probs ;)

i also think each to his own , you start them at 8 weeks , thats your choise no worries ;) my self there out ferreting with me from 4 month. but as soon as there jabbed up there out on short walks round the fields near my house.

the only place a realy dissagree with you , is where you say a dog that doesnt start this early wont have the same staminar or better ;) there are plenty of dogs out there doing bigger bags than you boys have done and bigger bags than myself , with dogs that have been started older than 8 week  . and nearer the usual 6-10 month of age range.

now just cos you havent seen them , dont mean it aint happened.

I think it also depends which area you lamp, you could have a million rabbits.....say 30mile away then go to another area and you might be lucky to get 1 :hmm:

very inocent question but why would you need to run two dogs on a rabbit? when one can do it fine on its own, dont mean to be rude just dont understand

how do you find out who is the best marathon runner. you put the runners in the same race to find out who comes 1st 2nd and 3rd

How do you find out which dog has the most stamina.? Both dogs run the same rabbits all night this keeps the amount of running done simular for both dogs. The dog that is running the strongest at the end of the night is the one with the most stamina. its about finding out who has the fittest dog between friends

hope this helps. I am not always very good at explaining my self

BUT, as in hare coursing, the points were scored mainly on turning the hare etc, just because the hare was caught by this dog or that dog, doesnt mean they're the best, my dog was ran doubled up with bros bitch and between and also the bitch with my other brothers dog, and between them have had 33 or 34 hares, my dog havig caught 6 or 7, but the majority of the work is done by the bitch, she runs them better but he is so late on the turn that he is running at them when the bitch has turned the hare back in

i know what your saying but winter hares in daytime is a different job mate its no comparison to bunnies and takes a different type of dog to do it right

im not comparing rabbits to hares, only seen a couple of daytime courses, but they were with dogs that go out on the lamp and were over fairly quickly :(, all im saying is you cant compare 2 dogs on who catches, it should be whos running better

Your dog sounds like it could probably do a fair job on it's own, and if what you say is true, then obviously that method worked on that dog, But my nan smoked 80 fags a day and lived to be 97, Just because it worked for her, don't make it right.

There as been real good dogs that did not go out until 12 or 18 months of age,i do admit,if the same dogs went out at a very young age there is a chance they would have been great .If your nan never smoked she may have lived well over an hundred

:clapper: good answer grit , yes she may have lived over 100 :clapper:

of course you could reverse that theroy and say if you , started your pups later they may have been better ;)

the trouble is like most things its just speculation , and diffrent peoples opinions will always differ

Guest hyperion

forgive me if i sound like a dribbling idiot here but...............

if your out for a bit of a mooch to see whats about you would stop either when you had as many rabbits as you need and or before you wear your dog out!

or

if your out for a big bag for pest control you would do every thing possible to stack the odds in the dogs favour, get between the rabbit and cover, get you and dog as close to the rabbit as possible and run one (dog) rest one ect!

cant help feeling that people loose sight of what its all about in the face of "big bags" and " my dog can do this or that", we all like to see big bags and probably dream of our own red letter day but i cant see the point in having to or trying to prove you can catch more than the next bloke or that your dog has more go than the next!

stamina has to be important but surely the dog that works out how to catch its prey quickly and over the shortest disstance will catch more than the dog that just runs and runs?

i dont care if my dog only ever catches a ball hes still the best dog in the world because hes mine! :tongue2:

cheers

hyperion
