HMR Zeroing

Im going off thread here but that little HMR .17 bullet is extremely frangible as you know, and is a safer calibre to shoot with than many if you are considering risks of richochet. If you dont want to take standing shots at a targets ( not live quarry ) then thats fine but please explain how you cannot be sure of where youre bullet is going ?

If youve got a safe backstop at one hundered yards then it is safe to do so . If you are that bad to miss by a yard say, then the bullet will safely embedd itself into the backstop which you have placed youre target in front off.

If you cant ensure your bullet will hit your backstop then that is a poor quality backstop, and should not be shot at in the first place.

Its not hard to find a suitable backstop such as an earth bank ! If you cannot find a safe backstop then dont take the shot fullstop, whether you are shooting standing, off sticks, of a bipod or whatever !

Where in the uk do you shoot as there are certainly safe backstops which would allow me ( lets say worst case scenario ) to miss by 15 yards and still ensure my bullet would hit against soft earth !

Good on you for pointing out the safe use of backstops, but standing shots do make up part of my shooting. I am not reliant on support when close range bunny bashing. All that I am saying and trying to point out, is that there is definately a lot of skill in shooting standing, and that was what I was trying to emphasise.

Neither was I suggesting Dekers grouping was poor as he was shooting supported incase anyone is under that opinion.. I already stated that his grouping was very good.

Just to clear that up a bit

My bad for going off topic in the first place :whistling:

Still very much on topic in my view and just the point I was making albeit in a more shocked way ;) It cannot be considered a safe shot if it can only be taken from the position of not missing by more than a couple of inches  We all get fliers and the issue is ever present of ricos regardless of calibre.

the point i wasnt trying to make.(badly :icon_redface: ) is that i am a very good shooter..make me stand free hand and my 12 yr old daughter is a better shot..i used to shoot hand guns free hand at 50 yards but now with a rifle im a joke.i dont hunt with a shot gun and the only time i walk is working my dogs.any rifle shooting we do is either with a quad or in the landy..i really wouldnt like to say that even with practice id improve.. ..as for back stops for me i dont think id be safe in a clay quary.

nice shootin mate, what sort of a scope have you got up on it and what mag did you have it set at,

Nothing special, a Hawke Varmint ll, 4-16x44, (and sunshade) can't be 100% sure about the mag now, I almost always use it at 6x but I think I was on 8x for this, DEFINATELY no higher! It was a bright sunny period about 14.30 and the target was well lit with no shadows!

Top one here....

and then all by itself!!
