GOING RABBITING WHICH PELLET DO YOU PREFER BETWEEN 40 TO 60 YARDS?. HW100T .177 Hello mate, What pellet can you group best in a fifty pence piece size target at 40-60 yards, I think that's your main objective, personally I wouldn't take a sixty yard shot at a rabbit with .177 ammo, I dont think there,s enough knock down power, also I wouldn't use a .177 pellet above 9 grns, there seems to be a lot of evidence about using heavy loads, some say it can shorten the life of the spring significantly, its only an opinion mate but I hope it helps, ATB, Rob. taff3915 2
when i had my daystate .177 i used the barracuda, found them to be as accurate as the ftt but seemed to knock the rabbits down alot easier, they use to do more trauma to the rabbits head than any of the .22 rifles/pellets i used, also the trajactory over 40yds was near as damn totally flat, never shot anything over 40yds even tho I knew I could of gone further i wouldnt in respect for the quarry as there is more risk of error. regards taff Quote Link to post

I group best with the h&n ftt, aa's are slightly better 60-70 yards but too many damaged ones in the tin they are a bit soft and leave alot of lead on my fingers. I have read that the 10.4 barracuda and bis mags deliver more impact down range and you get less runners. I don't use heavies in my hw97k I only use them in my hw100 pcp. thanks mate Edited February 23, 2009 by RAMCAM Quote Link to post

andyfr1968 772
If they group as well, I'd go for the Mags. They hold their energy so well at longer ranges. I've used .177 Mags (or Barracudas, exactly the same pellet) in my HW90 against everything from rats to rabbits, pigeons to crows and I can't fault them. Good luck, mate! Quote Link to post

Shoot very straight through my 90 but seem to slow down quite quickly. I've had my 90 for over ten years and tried (I think) most field pellets through it. Each gun is fussy, to a degree, but the heavy .177 Bisleys, or Barracudas do have an advantage as the yards increase. Try each type, mate, and see what you and your gun likes best.
