mad al 146
Well done you, make sure you stretch before you set off and what you might find easier is to plan a route at a distance you choose, run it at your pace and throw all timepieces out the feckin window. Clocks and watches are your enemy At the end of your run try to slow down at the end and walk a bit rather than just stop running, I've done a fair bit of this and guided my Mrs to 8th overall out of 1200 runners in the "Race for Life", so if you need any info., give us a shout
lurchergrrl 1,441
Go on with your bad self hype!! Good on you for making a start. 30 cigs a day Blimey I thought I was bad! Only tip I have is to watch out for lurchers when you're running - mine loves to chase joggers and I've yet to see one who can out run her

Stabs 3
Good on ya mate....I've always loved running but I've had a few breaks to concentrate on my heavy drinking and smoking as I found jogging got in the way of them and I'd let them slide a bit. Did my first marathon last March, got another one this March and another in July.
fraggle 4
best way mate to build up is simple run lol, warm up is best done whilst your jogging, well how i do it in the gym in the army lol, just run along shake your legs off, then swing arms around a bit look like a plum but the blood is pumping then so it works better, start of steady then just keep building yuor pace up, when you have a set route and you can run it without feeling sore that is the time to increase the distance, the last 400 meters slow down to a steady walk and as your coming in start shaking legs off, when stopped do a full stretch down from head to toe covering all the muscles. get a ipod or mp3 player, put some nice beat tunes on honestly it takes your mind off it (a bit) The lads who are wanting to join the army pm me, i'll give you the 20 min work out that will have you running a sub 10 min mile and a half run in no time, and the best way to build up for press ups, sit ups and heaves. its what i had done to me when i wanted to do my pti course. Good effort on the running mate, give it a couple of weeks and the running will get easier and you will feel ten times better.
