ribb 15
hi, been looking through this site, reading topics about people breeding dogs for what reason i can't understand ie,border terrier/whippet jack russell/greyhound, both crosses that detracts from the original speed that catches the prey.so why ,i ask myself, would you breed any terrier with a greyhound whither it be border, jack russell, staffordshire bull, wheaten, kerry blue, pit bull ,english bull, bedlington,as none of thesecan run and niether terrier nor greyhound are designed to turn. can anyone tell me why. Some of the crosses you mention seem pointless, but Bedlingtons can certainly run, so a beddy/whippet or beddy/grey is a logical cross. Quote Link to post

Id spose you could argue because terriers have great prey drive and are hunters and killers. Like you could say why cross a collie or acd to a grey as its not a hunting dog nothing against collies or acds, just giving an example. Quote Link to post
undisputed 1,664
Its not just about prey drive, some of the x's mentioned bring good coat, stamina, intelligence etc. Try standing at the top of a huge fecking hill in a cold freezing wind and rain with a pure grey and you'll get the picture Quote Link to post
scent 509
some crosses bring brains like the collie, others bring jaw power like the bull .Horses for courses i suppoes Quote Link to post
Guest Countryboyo
Im sure the bull cross owners will let you know why they like their breed before long. Id spose it all depends on quarry and terrain two. Quote Link to post
scent 509
personally i like a colliex because i find the majority of them very clever and most that i have seen are great fox dogs so i guess they are all rounders in my eyes Quote Link to post

Guest dances
bulls can run, and they also have very good stamina and athletism. A collie can catch rabbits aswell. Quote Link to post

Dont some terriers give good coats, beddies, lakeys ets. Id spose there is usually enough prey drive from the greyhound side anyway. but some lads like hard dogs for tackeling fox regularely and other hard prey. usually bull crosses. I really like the collie cross myself. But I like all lurchers and Id spose some are better at taking a specific prey than others. Most people seem to think collie lurchers are the best all rounders. Malt 379
as for prey drive is that not something you learn it. Not really mate. Certain breeds have been bred for certain traits, and one of them in the terrier is aggression/prey drive. All dogs will do the same job to a certain degree, but you don't see people breeding small springer spaniels to use to ground do you? (Example!) Quote Link to post
