Boater 0
Bit of an odd question probably, but what experience do people have on here about Lurchers (especially Bedlington Whippets) with regards to their swimming ability? Our Mates, who also live on a boat, have a Miniature Schnauzer and that sinks like a stone! Just wondering if our little Pup is going to be ok. Quote Link to post

shepp 2,285
I think it depends on the individual dog, my beddy loves water and my mates whippets are quite happy to go in. Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
Don't let a little pup go in the water when it's cold like at this time of year. They get hypothermia very quickly as their body mass isn't sufficient to keep the cold from their internal organs. I've never yet known any dog be unable to swim. If your pup is going to be around water a lot let it get to 6months old then introduce it to swimming: with a little dog like that you can wade in and encourage the pup to come with you: but not at this time of year! Boater 0
Thanks, No intention of letting it go in until at least June, specially if I need to go in to encourage it! Just wondered what other peoples experiences were, with these dogs and water. Quote Link to post
