Burnt case necks??

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, i tried Winchester .223 super x ammo in my remington 700 yesterday, only thing is when the case is extracted (only extracts 50% of the time! i blame the crap rem extractor though) there is burn marks around the case neck on the outside - anybody know what this is??? or if it's bad. getting good groups with it, my first 3 shot group with them was .8'' - kneeling over a broken table, rested on my hand up to my waist in snow - whilst snowing and -12oC! so i'd like to keep using them with that kind of potential!! but what the hell are those marks??

thanks, Phil

I had a similar problem with my .223 and the majority of people i spoke to said i might not be cleaning the chamber well enough. I dont know your situation properly but i think that if it isnt ejecting properly then a dirty chamber is the number one cause.

Do you men where the case has failed to obturate(seal) effectively upon expansion at the point of firing. This can normally be identified by linear marks down the case. The case should expand uniformally to prevent gases escaping back from the chmaber to the boltface?

Likewise the cartridge must flexible enough to be able to be extracted, after expantion and obturation.

First thing to check ,as allready identified, is a dirty chamber preventing uniform expansion and extraction.
