hickso 0
Hi all, I'm newish to ferreting so need some help please? Went out today to land not been too from a young age, new there were a couple about. Must have seen 7,8 rabbits today(good for around here) and dog was going nuts in the bushes all the time. Tested the dog on many sets with no luck but he was pushing them out of most of the bushes. So four Questions is there a better time of day to go? Will the dog be less likely to mark tidy with so many out and about?(normal marks great with no wrong marking) Why do they not go to ground when been chased about so much? I'm i just checking the wrong sets? no pic's sorry forgot my phone.(no rabbits anyway) thanks for any help. Edited January 16, 2009 by hickso Quote Link to post

Brimmer 220
No not stupid questions at all. Not sure if there is a better time to go, were out all day, it does not make much difference. If there are surface runners the dog may be distracted, but should still mark as long as it's not watching others run off. If the dog is normally sound, I'd trust it. The rabbits have found they can get away above ground, and will stick to what has worked for them before, only the cute one's are left at this time of year if they have seen some action. There may be hidden sets or drains they are living in, but sometimes like you say they don't go to ground. Quote Link to post
John-B 4
Are there any tufts of long grass about mate? they could be hiding in that. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
We have the same problem around here. With the previous winters being so mild, the cover don't die back like it used to, and has grown thick. For the majority of the year, the rabbits seem to be living in the cover, the times we seem to have more joy, is early on on really frosty mornings. Quote Link to post
hickso 0
Cheers for reply. one more question would more dogs be better to put them to ground? just worry about the little guys with too many dogs i'm not use to. yeah i trust the dog he is normal right, its just where i go normal don't see many above the ground in the day, so was think they were putting him off.
