Rolfe 2
Well i had a busy day yesterday mole trapping in gardens, paddocks, fields and on a golf course contract. Having been held back for over a week due to the hard overnight frosts it was time to start trapping again. The old time mole trappers always held the belief that moles are always more active following a period of hard frost.......and i have always found this to be the case. I just wondered what myths and stories anyone else had about this mysterious little creature. I know that in parts of East Anglia it was the custom to carry the front foot of a mole in a pocket to help ward off Rheumatism. Also the Jacobites favourite toast was to "The Little Gentleman in Black Velvet" as the humble mole was responsible for the death of William of Orange in 1702. His horse (Named Sorrell) stumbled on a mole hill as the king was riding in Hampton Court park and he died 16 days later as the result of his fall. Indeed a mole hill is depicted at the base of his statue in St James Square London. So........come on........where are your myths regarding Mr Mole........do female moles really tunnel in a zig-zag pattern? Rolfe. Quote Link to post
