Guest blackntan
AH IF YOU CATCH A MINK IN THE ILLEGAL PROCESS OF HUNTING IT WITH MORE THAN TWO DOGS AND LET IT GO YOU CAN THEN BE DONE FOR RELEASING AN ALIEN SPECIES INTO THE WILD , Quote Link to post
fireman 11,236
I'd plead guilty to not being stupid enough to try to get a spitting mink away from my dogs with bare hands,it'd be on it's fecking own mate. The alien species bit is pushing it even for the other side but once handled you have to kill it,same as foxes. shamus 36
we used to kill a lot of mink a few years ago in our river estuary and along the beaches adjoining the river but otters reappeared and that was the end of the mink, the two ,apparently, don't live side by side.I was always impressed by how game the horrible little things were. The downside was that it made the terriers unsteady with ferrets. Our local paper had a headline about mink 'marauding'down our mainstreet. Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Have had a couple of cracking hunts on mink in the past ,the best being quite by surprise .Walking dogs late at night a few years back [all dogs present now dead] they ran down the bank of our local stream/river and waded out in the shallows ,keen on a scent .The lurcher ,being taller saw the mink run through the shallows further down and was on the case .The terriers x2 were both over the far bank by now and threading in and out the dead cowparsley . The mink took the dogs about 30 yards down stream and then dived into a stone wall that was built to slow the water down .The face of this wall was dry stone so the mink could only get itself curled up in the one spot before the dogs marked and i got there to pull a stone out .Quick as a flash it was out and in the water ,evading the dogs again ,reappearing upstream this time but in the middle of some very shallow water .The lurcher was on it befor it dived for deeper water and they broke it up much to my disgust as i wanted to have a good look at it .Still ,a good job done and a good few minutes of sport . mouse 282
i help run a minkhound pack and we use a full pack of hounds to flush mink to our bird of prey or waiting guns, as for otters then they will drive mink off there territory,no match between the two.also a mink is no match for any terrier in my opinion or they should not be?
