dh90 6
Does anybody think that leaving dead or dying rabbits in a warren upsets the other occupants to a point where they leavet the warren, just a thought, because I don't think I could live there surrounded by stiffs decaying around me. I have dug my ferret out of a set which had bolted a few rabbits to find the ferret eating a rabbit which had obviously been dead a while. Musnt bother the rabbit or at least the odd one doesnt. Dunno whether a few would put them off. Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
If i wait long enough my ferrets do come out but i start the digging within about 5 mins of them not showing. My bags would be half the size if i didnt. Usually no more than 4ft but can be hard at times with big rocks and roots etc. Also i dont like the idea of leaving a kill, for the sake of a few minutes digging i would say you get bigger bags, more sets done and you arent leaving any underground. Definately worth the dig IMO Almost D.H Lawrence with that post! My sentiments exactly! Quote Link to post

The one 8,584
this year seems to be the worst ever for digging but some days it makes up half the bag Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
i much prefer to bolt rabbits given the option but i am happy to dig when necessary. To get a rabbit 4 - 5 foot is the maximum though, alot of the buries on my ground go off the scale on the locator so i do have to leave them sometimes. The ferrets are a different matter though, i would do whatever was needed to get them back. My worse dig last season was 6 foot to the collar which on of the little darlings had got out of. This seasons was day before yesterday, 4 foot to a stop end and two rabbits. Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Crikey, after all that talk last night of digging, I will not be able to hold my head up again after today. On really easy land in the valley bottom, quite deep sets with a few in, and also had the old dog, he cannot catch many anymore, in so had to NET UP, and also started using a jill! The shame! Think i,ve just had a lesson off Will! Edited December 24, 2008 by Brimmer Quote Link to post

When you are getting 3 or 4 out of a set with only an old dog, netting up has to be done. Just glad i've got a jill doing the job properly on the second time out! About time i had a good one! Did you enjoy more? give your back a rest old man I did enjoy it Will, wish i had more good jills to be honest, if i had 2 more like that i'd be set up right! On the high ground there is only the odd one or two in a warren, and they are real shallow, The lowland has real deep holes, but quite a few in, so out with the jill and nets. (still had to dig her out a lot of times though.) Most of our work is on the high ground, the lowland stuff is traditional try and bolt stuff! Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
LMAO. You should sell all them damn hobs, and get on the phone to Molecatcher to sort a load of nets for you! haha Quote Link to post
