Set the Fox Trap the other night

i'm certainly no expert trapper but if you can spare a couple of bales of hay or straw and put them around the side of it it might be of benefit when you have a trap that size makin it blend in is essential!! its the same as mine and i've had only the rare success with it!!! me and the bro inlaw are goin to make one about 1 1/2 time the size and see if the success rate will be any better! he made one at the start of last year and his cousins have caught 14 with it so far...

The size of the trap is definitely the key to its success - they don't like going into small cages at all normally (although I have had them in the Larsen!)

I have found that a good shovelfull of earth and or shavings out of the chicken run on the floor of the cage helps a lot. And a handful of feathers thrown in adds to the set.

Thanks for the replys all taken on board it is not my trap mine is out somewhere else will take photo tommorow,it is my cousins he come up and set it for me,the place it was on before middle of a town in an allotment caught fourteen,we were going to put more turf and soil down but it was f"""g freezing and going dark, went back this morning local hunt were out yesterday in the wood above massive shot ten,put more soil and turf in the base, spread some more feathers about.

The question of size is intresting would make a good poll on here ,I have a smaller one and before you think it trap,it is a boughten one small mesh, had it over three seasons only caught eleven in it,

Cousin knocked this one up it is massive compared to mine and he caught that in a season.

I know it is difficult to base it on that different grounds might be more foxes in one area but would mind other peoples thought ? How do you do a poll I havent got a clue :icon_redface:

Hi the one in the photo My Cousin made it is about six foot he has caught loads in it,the other one I have was a boughton it is only Four Foot and finer mesh I have caught several in it but not as many as this one,it looks in the photo if there is no soil over the wires in the base but we added that and chicken feathers after we took the photos, and the other field alongside it I prebaited with bits of chicken.Caught the other night with a head of a trout
