Bushing with the Pack

Recommended Posts

Dose anyone else bush with a pack by Lamp Light.

Have been getting out about 3 times a week, just round the doors and mainly for excersise taking them all out together for ease.

3 Terriers a Cocker x Hound and a Lurcher, i use the lurcher a little on the lamp but when out with the pack he just runs with the pack, i thought this might spoil him for when he is lamping proper, as he might start hunting up but he seems to know the difference.

When we are bushing we tend to leave the lamp or lamps on all the time, so you need some good batteries.

I usually get maybe 1 every time i go out but last night we got 4 rabbits and hunted 2 foxes which were lost in cover, was a good few hours and with the dark nights ment the whole pack got some decent excersise.

I know this is nothing compaired to normal lamping (which i do as well), but in thick cover its good sport not knowing what will be pushed out.

its scary at times, im not a big fan of losing terriers at night or digging them out by torch light.

i went out last week along the canal towpath, first time in yrs.still full of folks walking there dogs even at 8 aclock at night.

saw one rat and dogs were hunting a rabbit up, its ok if you know ever hole and drain

i thought this was a piss take then at first mate.. no offence....

id never risk hunting a terrier by night at a risk of loosing him/her...

as fred sed.. you must have good disiplin over you dogs mate

all the best with the night bushing :clapper:

No Piss Take JoLong, we bush juring the day, we bush juring the night, no difference, we always keep the pack close to us with the aid of a whistle, day or night you need good control and we find the whistle keeps them together.

We dont get many that the lurcher couldnt get by himself, its mainly just to keep them fit for weekend work and as none of them ever go to ground we have never had any problems.

I have been bushing several times this week with my pack....always in the light though!

Rabbits will be venturing out from teh cover at night so it slightly dilutes the point of hunting the cover......then again for rats etc....also my dogs get enough injuries from brambles and thorns during the daylight....they could get a lot more during the dark......and as has been pointed out a dog going to ground....or any minor crisis is a lot worse in the dark!
