swanseajack 228
Over the time I've had bedlingtons, there's been articles done in CMW, books written to promote the 'Working Bedlington' in particular the one by J Glover, now Glover favours the Gutchcommon lines, he apparently keeps purebred Gutchcommon stock... that work to ground.. Want I want to know is, has anyone seen a purebred Gutchcommon dog work, not one that's been crossed to anything else a purebred GC, even better one of Glover ?? Has anyone had any experience of Gutchcommon dogs, good or bad ??? Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
yes, mine but not work well.the dog was worker to worker but pedigree GC throught out his pedigree, i bought it from bishop auckland in 1986, cost me £150,hell of a lot of money for a 16 yr old lad. the dog was ok on rats, seen better but i had high hope for him as an earth dog as he was flying to ground at 6mths old but i started him at well over a yr old but he didnt want it, he was never over matched but was only a bayer and never got close enough for my liking. i got a bitch simalar bred and she never killed a thing and died at my mothers at the grand age of 16 or 17 Quote Link to post

Big bald beautiful 1,231
my parents split up and i was 15 and went to live with my mother and she wanted an airedale but as you know a 15 yr old lad cant hunt with one of those.so i got a paper round and talked her into letting me get a terrier and she liked bedlingtons. so i got one brought down from bishop auckland, cost me another 20 quid for petrol. I got my mother another bedlington bitch 3 yrs ago and my sister has it after my mother passed away 18 mths ago. Quote Link to post
jonesy 111
Got a gutchcommon bred dog direct from J,Glover, worst mistake regards working terriers, wouldnt go to ground and would not even bush it would go about a foot in the bramble get tangled up and just sit there chewing the bramble and before anyone asks its coat wasnt to long, had it all shaved it off thinking it might help but made no difference. david2363 42
£150 in 1986, I would say £500 in todays money, an awful lot for a Bedlington Terrier. SJ's question stems from a similar post raging on the working Bedlington forum. It'll be interesting to see the pattern of responses now its been thrown open to a wider audience. ps If you know where to look, you can get a good Bedlington pup from working parents for not much more than the same £150. twotone 6
True dave it all lies in "If you know where to look" and "from working parents". The names quoted in pedigree's such as Rillington, Gutchcommon, Eakring, Granitor & Rambo are widely used to hoodwink the unsuspecting. At the end of the day its as we've spoke about its not the name its the deeds. Quote Link to post
