OUT TODAY

Recommended Posts

Arrived at the bottom quarry 8am with my mooching partner Steve, car showing -2.5c,slight Northerly breeze & sunshine. We knew the sport would be slow as the bottom quarry has been ravaged by myxi :censored: .We started off with a couple of small sets, plenty of rabbit activity in the snow around the holes & the ground was like bell metal so getting the pegs in was :o but we managed however no one at home.

We moved into the quarry bottom again did a couple of sets, same result  & not a rabbit to be seen running into the quarry walls :icon_eek: .The quarry ponds were frozen solid but we did'nt try any skating....

We moved further down the quarry & did 2 small sets on the way to the south bank, same result as before  We got on the bank & netted up a 13 holer,Steve decided to go for a look around between the Hawthorn bushes & he came back to tell me there were small sets around the tree bases which must have been dug this summer as we've never noticed them before  .We netted the whole lot up which was quite a pain but hopefully might put something in the bag.No one at home in the 13 holer however we did manged 1 from tree set :toast:

Steve getting right in amongst it...

We had a bite to eat & headed off for a mooch next to the river & we found 6 or so small sets which looked freshly dug & used however we decided to call it a day as the wind was getting strong & it was approaching 2pm not a great day but nice to be out :)

Well done Andy, one's ok, I'd much rather be out and catch nowt than be stuck in doors, what do they mine at the quarry?

Both the quarries are long defunct but the area was rich in quartz, lead ore & limestone(i think). There's kilns on the bottom quarry which must be Victorian. The quarry over the back of my land is still operational looks like sandstone, sharp sand & aggerate..plenty of rabbit on there but no permission granted for me :whistling:

We have some of those lime kilns near us, think they are also victorian, you may get permission on the other quarry if they see you about a lot, that's how I got most of my land, just talk to people and sometimes they ask for my number, some call back some don't.
