stealthy1 3,964
Talking to a mate the other day about guns, he asked me if he would be allowed to hold a shotgun certificate, the thing being is that thee years ago he picked up a charge for ABH, one of the local village idiots was giving his son 18 years of age and only 4ft tall a very hard time, well it all kicked off one night in town after a few beers, he gave said idiot a couple of slaps, idiot rings police, wound up in court, now I said they would'nt grant him one because of his conviction, what do you think, should he apply or not? SportingShooter 0
It will depend entirely on his own case and the merits of it. They will do all the background checks and consult him about what they find when the Enquiry Officer comes for his visit. They may well ask for a Doctors report, amongst other things. ABH is a serious charge, but was he convicted or was it thrown out? Cautioned or Arrested?? etc etc Only way to find out is apply and see. SS
stealthy1 3,964
Yes he was convicted, two years probation, which the court halved for good behavoir, and an anger mangement course that the court quashed because it clashed with his work shift pattern. SportingShooter 0
Just apply and see is the only answer, he will get his Photos and Cheque back if refused. SS

Police forces throughout the uk all are bound by Home Office regulations. Tell your mate Dont waste your time.If he wants to go shooting he can accompany you or someone with a gun on private land with permission

artic 595
I wouldn't say your friend has NO chance. Its very slim mind you. Convictions can vary from 3,5,12 years depending on what conviction.

artic 595
How old are you? If you have received a custodial sentence of between 3 months and 3 years then you'll be prohibited for a period of 5 years from the date you are released. If you have received a custodial sentence of 3 years or more then you'll be prohibited for life, from the date of release. Its the anger management that might be a problem here. Health plays a major part in owning a gun.
akton 15
Best way is to phone up your local Firearms dept.ask them if you placed an application for a shotgun what would be the chances of getting one. Tell them its for pest control and have the farmers permission to use one

I run a game farm and have had a firearms licence for 10 years now and this year on trying to renew it they have said i cant because the piece of ground i have is not large enough to warrant a rifle license. It is now deemed to be unsafe yet for the last 10 years it has been ok.
