Hob&Jill 258
Im interested in getting some fish. I dont really know much about it. I would rather have like small tench, roach and carp etc than tropicals as I love my fishing and would find it more interesting keeping standard coarse fish. What would be very rough setting up costs? like the tank, filters etc sorry if its abit vague, HJ

PeakOil 352
Tench and carp are not really suitable for a tank unless you get something min 6 feet long as they grow big, produce lots of waste and need quite a bit of swimming room. I used to have Gudgeon, Crucians and Rudd in an 8ft outside tank. What size tank are you thinking of?
dawnraider 2
allways go for something as big as you can afford and have the space for,a friend of mine had a tropical pond in his conservatory which held 1500 litres.go to youre local newsagent and pick up a copy of practical fishkeeping its a monthly mag which will give you all you need, good luck. droid 11
If you keep coldwater river fish indoors you'll have lots of problems keeping the water cool enough. If you don't, the fish will asphyxiate. Oxygen levels drop as water temperature rises. Tropicals have adapted to this, temperate zone fish haven't. If you want to keep them properly, you'll need a water cooler for the tank. Stick to tropicals.
