Depends what type your after, now if I was after Red stags I would chose a 22" whippet x type dog..........that seems to be about ideal for all tackle :)
seen it done wilf ,more than once but there was 2 of them .[but they were large hinds not stags]

any dog with a bit of bottle and can run a bit [not stupid things like terriers ] but i have seen them have the odd one .it is not that hard to catch deer with dogs , except in the day ,after all you are puting the deer at a dissadvantage by shining a bright light in their eyes ,i have used and seen alsorts take them ,[iT IS SEEING THEM DO IT NIGHT AFTER NIGHT AND TAKE ALL THE BUMPS WITH IT ] some of the best dogs i have seen doing this job you would laugh at how they were bred medium to small ,and some of these big bull xcould only manage the odd night [im not saying all but i have seen a lot ] there is no certain type this is what i have experienced preban.
MY LAW i was told you uesd to use a big bullx[not yours]night after night with out fail

So deer hounds aren’t capable of taking any type of deer? Or is it just that there are other breeds that are more suited to taking the smaller species? (am not trying to take the mik I am interested. Thanks. Youngshot.

i think it depends what lines they are from mate working or show.

deerhound x grey will of definitely done it in the good old days as i saw a few do it day and night. you dont always need bull blood to get the result but they do look very good doing it.

A good big'un will beat a good little 'un......
not always .and not all the time it is down to the individual dog and the work it gets.

couse it bloody dous thats why he said good, not a shite big one will beat a good little one,,,

as for 22 itts takin red hinds :icon_eek::icon_eek::wallbash::wallbash:

the first question asked needs to be more specific..

i.e

what terrain

what method either walking or driving

what breed, there is one hell of a difference between a muntjack and a red stag
