hughesey1552 0
howdy! i got up this morning to see the sun shining so i decided that i would go for a mooch around my permission as i have been in about 2 weeks. anyway i got there and immediatley as i got on the drive i saw a BOP eating something on the floor but... the wierd thing was there was a magpie dining along side it lol, i thought the BOP would have snapped the magpie up!. anyway parked my car up and went for a mooch through a small wooods. after around 5 mins i heard something moving around in the trees looked up and saw a squirell; fidgeting around, i watched him for 5 mins until he stopped moving and then gave him a shot to the head which dropped him instantly then shoved him in my gun bag. I carried on walking through the woods quietly and came across a squirell digging (presumably burying or digging up nuts). Any way this squirell got a pellet aswell. at least he died doing something he loved lol. After coming to the end of the woods i crossed the field and went in to the other woods where i got 1 more squizzer. I carried on mooching for about an hour seeing a few magpies along the way but no kills. Anyway decided to mooch back to the car as i was starving! All in all a good mooch with 3 squirells that got left for the foxes. Ps. anyone who is an expert at getting maggies is welcome to show me how as they are Pi**ing me off now because they are to keen to spot me. davyt63 1,845
hi hughesey nice read and nice shooting buddy.as regards to magpies if you can get a pigeon or crow and bait them with it. once you get one magpie the rest will follow to a degree, they don't like it when one of there own are down the noise is quiet something. in my experience some good cover and very slow movement hope this helps regards davy Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
Magpies are doing very well these days as they are crafty and strong and resourseful...getting close to them is not easy on the whole, bait and cover and quiet as suggested above is the best bet...but not easy!!
