Had a cracking run last night!

Recommended Posts

Took the dogs out to my friends farm last night for a bit of a mooch about and had a few really long runs (The few rabbits we see are majorly Lamp shy!) at one point we released the dogs for a bit of free running to warm up the muscles again (it was freezing down here!) Tia and Roo were half way up the field when the Cocker pup yapping away put a rabbit up from the middle of the field and about 100 yds out from us, Roo spotted it and took off after it back towards us, he was more than a quarter of the field behind it when he started but almost had it as they came towards us. Realizing it was going to make the Wood before he caught it I ran across to shouted it away, it then turned straight into my mate with the lamp who without thinking booted it in the head! Dogs nil, handlers 1!!

Last field before we got back to the yard was a ploughed and drilled 40 acre sopping wet quagmire! Quick shine and see a set of eyes shining in the centre of the field. I start walking down the edge of the wood whilst my friend with the lamp walked straight towards the eyes. Next thing I know the pair of eyes suddenly become four sets of eyes! which all take off, two up the field and away, with two heading for the hedge, release Roo who closes the distance between him and the eyes at an amazing pace considering it was really thick wet mud. At the hedge instead of going through they decide to run down it towards the wood RESULT!! Roo cuts the angle off and even after running a 40 acre field he manages to strike so hard it's dead before it hits the ground (or maybe because it hit the ground so hard?) Either way he was laying down next to it as I wheezed my way across the field with 8lbs of mud on each foot!!

Enoughs enough back to the farm house for a well earned Beer and some fresh lights for Roo!

An absolutely amazing night again with Roo just getting better and better.

Cheers Lurcher 83, looks like your keeping her fit  , Thank you Victor.

Headshot08 - judging by your posts to other topics I'm guessing your only early - mid teens so I'll give you a polite answer,

I've never boasted Roo's the fastest or best dog about, he's my first Lurcher (and a two year old rescue) so he could be the fastest or more likely the slowest Lurcher out there and I'd never know it as I have nothing to compare him to. He's given me enormous amounts of fun, with some sport and Dinner thrown in.

Tia's slow enough not to get in his way, so she can chase him about as much as she likes, it keeps her fit and active and she loves it and if she gets some luck she can be in the right place at the right time.

It's nice to share your stories and photo's with like minded people and as I don't have many Hunting friends with Lurchers I tend to pop up occationally and post a topic on a hunting/lamping/shooting trip that to me was particularly memorable or funny.

Not that it really matters but there's a few guys on here that have seen what my dogs are capable of.

As for my mate kicking the rabbit in the head, it's his farm and his permission, he can do what he likes to them, may not be seen as sporting but to him it's just one less eating his grass.

All the Best

Luke.
