auld salmon 28
MY FAVOURITES ARE MY HARDY SALMON RODS & REELS FOR SALMON Quote Link to post
kingfisher 0
i dont really have a favourite rod but i think its more important to have a decent reel then a good rod. i brought a korum 3g multi feeder a few months back and although it looks, feels and plays fish really nicely... its shit! the build quality is crap. after 3 outings the coller on the reel seat seperated from the foregrip and a couple of weeks ago the cork on the same foregrip has split now korum have a 3yr guarantee but you have to pay £20 per section which is great if i broke it but it was a manufacturing fault. anyway what im trying to say is i can do the same job on a 10 pound rod from used tackle as i could do on a 300 pound rod from hardys but put a crap reel on any rod and it makes your job alot harder. would anybody agree with that? mattydski 560
Just wonderd whats peoples favourite rods and reels for the type of fishing that thay do ? I've got 20 or so rods, probably similar amount of reels. But if i go anywhere with just one rod, i take My John Wilson 9ft 1 3/4 lb TC wanderer stalkilng rod and an Abu Garcia C5 reel or my baitrunner. It goes carp fishing, salmon fishing, sea fishig, float fishing, pike fishing, rock fishing, pier fishing etc. I've had it 18 years or more, and it wasn't expensive, but i just love it. It has had carp to 28.5 lb, pike to 23lb, pollock to 10.5lb and hundreds of other sizes and species. It was an 18th birthday present from my dad (Deceased) so i will never get rid of it. Definately my favourite.. Matt Quote Link to post

Barbus 0
10ft Northwestern stalker 2 lb test curve for extracting old barbus from any watery snags, 2x12ft greys prodigy barbel rods 1.75lb test curve for twin rodding on the severn, 12ft fox speacialist 1lb test curve quiver rod for winter chub work A selection of general coarse and float rods Commrant telescopic for the odd bit of trout, perch spinning at work My main barbel reels are the shimano 5ooo re's bait runnners,I love em! Kingfisher I reckon your pretty much there mate about reels, a good clutch means everything, but also the right rod too and the action of it. I always look for barbel rods that compress nicely with a good through action, meaning basicaly that they soak up a lot of the power of the fish rather that stressing the line and knots etc. I reckon its the same throughout any fishing and hunting its all about having the right tools for the job Quote Link to post
